chucknmarilyn Posted September 8, 2010 #1 Share Posted September 8, 2010 I would like to buy some fresh flowers from Barcelona and am just wondering how far it would be from the port to where most of the flower carts are located. An easy walk or not?
CruisinNole Posted September 8, 2010 #2 Share Posted September 8, 2010 Have you brought flowers on board with you before? I don't believe you can in the US. Am curious to hear if they have the same regulations in foreign ports.
chucknmarilyn Posted September 8, 2010 Author #3 Share Posted September 8, 2010 I think it's okay. We've brought them on in Seattle from Pike's Market. The rule is usually that you can't take them off the ship.
Rare Hlitner Posted September 8, 2010 #4 Share Posted September 8, 2010 It is about a 1 1/4 mile walk from most of the cruise piers across the bridge and into town where there are many flower venders. We actually enjoy this stroll but we do love long walks. Hank
chucknmarilyn Posted September 8, 2010 Author #5 Share Posted September 8, 2010 Thanks so much! I guess I'll just see what the weather is, etc. The Pope is also in town that day to bless La Sagrada Famalia so it may be very hectic.
OttoCal Posted September 9, 2010 #6 Share Posted September 9, 2010 There are flower stalls on Las Ramblas, in about the middle area. You may also like a visit to the Boqueria market there, which is fun to look at, and you can buy fresh cut fruit, chocolate, fresh squeezed juices, and other goodies, and eye the famous Jamon hanging in the places that sell meat. I like the pottery shop on C/ Escullders for a wide selection of Spanish pottery, it is off Las Ramblas. You will be at the 'bottom' of Las Ramblas once you leave the cruise ship dock. It will be marked by a tall column which is the Columbus (Colon) Monument. You can go into the bottom of the column and take a small elevator to the top for beautiful views up Las Ramblas, towards Montjuic Hill and you will be able to see La Sagrada Familia in the distance. I do agree that it will be especially hectic when Pope Benedict is there to consecrate SF, but I imagine much of that crowd will be closer to that area. Take care of pickpockets especially in the Las Ramblas area- they know when the cruise shippers are in town. Wear a cross-body purse, hold the zipper, don't stand around gaping at a map on the street, avoid backpacks. It is not unsafe at all, but there is no need to make yourself a target.
