Cruise was boring

I cruised on the Century about 10 years ago and although the ship was beautiful the shows were dull and the nightlife nonexistent. I haven't booked with them again but am interested to see if things have changed. Please update. I am interested in the Southern Caribbean itineraries. Thanks

I'm sure everyone's opinion of entertainment is different. The Alaska cruise we took 5 years ago was awesome. We loved every show and were never bored.

Can you be more specific about what you are looking for? That will make it easier for recent cruisers to give you feedback.

 

We have been on Celebrity 3 times in the past 2+ years and are scheduled for two more - so you can see it works for us!

 

IMHO there is more than enough to do! With the wide varity of entertainment (big shows to small performances), lounges/bars (big nightclub to small lounges) you can have whatever kind of evening you want.

We are HAL fans and have been on SilverSea, Azamara and some smaller lines. We were on Century in 2008 and thought it our least favorite cruise with overall bad food and staff that could only say "no". (It didn't help that we had about 12 card key lock-outs on two diff cards and staterooms.) It was a short mini-cruise from Miami that offered cheap inside staterooms for my daughter and her friend.

 

Fast forward to two year later. We go back on the same ship (4 night mini-cruise from MIA) with the same group, and we were blown away. Ship was in mint condition, crew great, Captain's Club hostess the best, food really good (my DH is a Chef), the best CD we have ever had and some of the best entertainment. We were happily surprised!

If you do NOT like:

 

Dancing

Going to shows (musical/comedy/juggling-magic)

Eating

Drinking

Gambling

Listening to live music/bands

Relaxing outside in sea air with sunset and later moon/stars

Using gym/spa

Getting on internet

Meeting new friends

Hooking up with friends you have just recently met

Scheduled parties by ship/staff

 

You might be bored. A cruise is what you make of it. Hope you go and have a GREAT time! :)

Where was your last cruise? I have read that longer cruises (Transatlantic and/or Alaska cruises) attract much older persons and that would explain the non existent nightlife.

 

In fact on one of our previous cruises, one of the casino dealers were telling us about a recent transatlantic cruise which even the crew found boring-aparently the vast majority of the passengers were in their 70's or 80's and they all were in bed by 10.00pm every night. The casino had to stay open so the dealers had to stand at the tables every night reading magazines.

 

I'm sure you won't find this on a Caribbean irtinerary-unless you are on HAL:)

 

On all of our previous Caribbean cruises (Celebrity & RCCL) the nightclub and Casino were still busy well after 2.00am.

I have only been on three cruises, and only one on Celebrity, so take my reply with a grain of salt.

 

But if you are looking for stuff to do, there was more than enough on the cruise we took. Decent entertainment, good musicians in the bars, etc.

 

If, however, you are looking for an all-night, beer-bong, toga-party kind of cruise, I would probably look elsewhere than Celebrity. Personally, I am glad Celebrity is a little more upscale than that, and I would probably look to another cruise line, if Celebrity took on the reputation of a floating frat-house.

On 19 cruises, I have never been bored. My biggest problem is having to choose from 2 or 3 activities in every time slot. When there is no organized activity I want to participate in, it gives me time to catch up with my reading or get some exercise walking around deck. I agree with a previous poster that a cruise is what you make it.

 

I think one can tell a lot about a cruise line from looking at the brochures. If you see children on slides and teenagers climbing rock walls, that tells you something. If you see men in tuxedos and women in evening gowns being served by waiters in tuxedos wearing white gloves, that tells you something else. If people choose their cruise line carefully, it is unlikely they will be bored.

I have never been bored on a cruise or in every day life. There is always something to think about during quiet time. We don't usually go to the shows, rather spend time with DH enjoying sea air and stars.

Sometimes we go to the shows, and sometimes we don't. But we have never been bored on a cruise. Besides all the activities offered, we read, talk to new friends, and just people watch. Sometimes that alone is entertainment enough!!:)

You'll grow into it. Give yourself another ten years. I used to not like classical music, now I do, I used to think older women were old, now their hot. Get the idea? Celebrity is classical elegance. If you want a party ship try Carnival or RCCL. Also, book a cruise with lots of port days. I agree that too many sea days gets boring. I'll probably grow into that too. My parents never get off the ship. For them, every day is a sea day. They like the old folks cruise lines, you know, the ones that serve the midnight buffet at 4 PM. lol

We've never been bored either. As others have said, a cruise is what you make of it. I think you would like the southern itinerary, especially if you go out of San Juan because you will only have one sea day and you can stay busy every day in port. We love this itinerary and the islands are really beautiful. Go ahead, go for it! You just might be surprised and enjoy it.

Well, all four of us are under 60 (barely...lol) and I assure you we will be in bed by 10 p.m. We are when at home, so after full days of excursions, I imagine we will on the cruise, as well.

I so love boring:D;):)..........just off a week on Solstice and it was

soooo nice not doing anything. Things at home have been stressful

and all I did all week, eat sleep, drink, read.....and repeat and not

necessarily in that order:D

I never went to a show all week and never stepped off the ship in

any of the ports. I slept in, went to the Solarium pool ALOT and

used the hot tubs, the pool, etc......

I love Celebrity but I will admit that I sometimes have trouble finding something interesting to do. I had the same experience on HAL.

 

That being said, I don't care. If I can't find something to do, then I plant my rear-end in a deck chair and read and am perfectly content.

 

It depends on your age and interests. I can remember on my first couple of cruises that I went at a frenetic pace to see/do everything and was exhausted by the time I got home.

My first X cruise was on Century in 1997. I was 32 at the time and found it really boring also. A few years later we went on the Millenium and had a great time and have been on several X cruises since and love it. I think we prefer the larger ships. There is not as much activity at night as RCCL, but much more than HAL.

I would try a different cruise line. Unless you have mellowed I see no reason why you would like celebrity now. It is just as laid back now as it was ten years ago. IMO

Unfortunately you are asking for info on very subjective topic like entertainment/boredom. Virtually impossible for anyone to definitively answer what you may or may not like or if you will be bored or not. Only you can decide that.

 

Perhaps if you tell everyone what shows you saw that you considered dull and what nightlife you prefer, people may be able to chime in on what has changed through the years. But even that is still speculation on everyone’s part as not everyone will like the same style of entertainment.

 

Probably the best route is if you find some recent cruise daily schedule online so you can check to see if Celebrity has the proper entertainment/night life that you desire.

If sitting out on my balcony with my wife and a cold one, watching the sea and other distant ships, is boring... give me more boring!!! I so love boring, and hey... I'm only 42. I'll be in bed by 11:00 pm or so on a cruise, I watch every sunrise while at sea. That was a challenge in Alaska, sun set 11:00 at night and rose at 3:00 in the morning! Boy was I beat from doing "boring" stuff on that cruise.

We cruise Century in November and I can't wait to be "bored". I've had too many vacations where I returned home more exhausted than I left. I'm glad that there's plenty to do on Century but I think the best option for me on this trip will be doing nothing at all! BTW, love the thread on which books to take on cruise. I hope to get through several!
