Colon for the evening ?!?

As I am looking at what to do in each port, I have noticed that we dock in Colon at 5 PM and depart at 9 PM. Any suggestions on what we can do in this amount of time at this time of the day?

Sounds like you are on a partial transit of the Canal. The main purpose of this stop is to pick up passengers who took tours when the ship reached Gatun Lake. Previously the Cristobal pier had been used for this purpose and it had a very nice shopping area within the pier. There is some shopping near the Colon pier but in the past it has been rather limited, I don't know if this is changed since they have moved to the Colon pier.

 

There really is nothing to do in Colon at night (or day for that matter) and not a place you would care to set out on your own without benefit of a tour. In the past the sailing time has been flexible and the ship may not use all the time it has allowed for stop in Colon if all the touring passengers have returned. There really may not be enough time for you to do anything except a little shopping by the pier. Those port times are really more of a guesstimate as to their arrival and departure.

Our northbound full transit cruise stopped at Colon (Cristobal Pier) for 4 hours also. We were late due to a medical emergency on our cruise delaying us at the first set of locks. Cristobal Pier is a quaint area filled with shops and a couple of restaurants and bars. Around back is a grocery store, and we were able to stock up on snacks and drinks. We felt very safe but stayed in this area. It's also a great photo op of your ship close up at night. Have fun. Heidi

Sometimes the ship gets in a little earlier, but other than go to Super 99 and stock up on soda and wine . . . nothing! Best bet is to reserve dinner in the Steakhouse or Sabatinis! Better option . . . if your itinerary allows it, have a great day seeing some of Panama off the ship, come back, kick back and order in.
