Which side and month of Infinity for Alaska Cruise would you choose?

Hi!

Just wondering, which side of the Infinity (roundtrip from Vancouver and back to Vancouver) would you choose port or starboard? and why? would you want to face land or see? And as it is a round trip from Vancouver to Vancouver does it matter. Also on Celebrity - would you go in a Sky suite or CC suite? This is going to be a present for my parents 45th anniversary and my family and my sister's family will be coming also!

Thanks!

Melissa -- We sailed Infinity last Aug. 22. Can't answer your suite question because we've never booked one. But to answer your other big question -- the side doesn't matter much -- for most of the trip, you are in or near the Inside Passage, and land is in sight on both sides, spectacular every way you look (and for one stretch of it, the best view is directly AHEAD of the ship, so you'll want to be in the observation lounge for that!). We had an oceanview cabin on port, FWIW. Re: the time of year, that was our only Alaska cruise so far, but I would vouch wholeheartedly for late summer!

On the suite question, you have to think about what they will utilize and what elements they value. The CS is spectacular, with extra artwork, a large bathroom, a walk-in closet, two huge TVs, lots of living space, in-room PC, dining table, etc. But no balcony, instead a large floor-to-ceiling window wall.

The SS is basically a larger-than-normal cabin, with fewer "gee whiz" features. But it does have a balcony. Both have the same suite amenities.

It really depends on what you think they'll value the most. With a CS, of course, there is no choice as to side of the ship -- they are all on the same side. But I don't think that's an issue on the round trip Alaska cruise.

Melissa, you and your family will absolutely LOVE Alaska!! We have cruised Alaska 4 times with number 5 coming up next year.

As to which side to choose, I personally would choose the starboard (right) side if I couldn't get a corner FV.

Just for clarification, you mentioned CC suite. The ConciergeClass cabins are not suites. They are 191 sq ft with lots of extra amenities but no butler. If you were talking about the CS (Celebrity Suite)RWB has given you good info.

Which ever is chosen, your family is in for an unforgetable cruise

The side of the ship doesn't make any difference in Alaska. We took our cruise the end of May. Had only about 10 minutes of rain the entire trip. It was mostly light jacket weather. I know people who have gone in July and had rain the whole week. Alaska is really a crapshoot- you never know what you are going to get. As for cabins, I have stayed in both a deluxe balcony and a Sky Suite on the Infinity. The Sky Suite is definitely hard to beat. Not only do you have so much more room but that butler, wow!!!

Alaska is an amazing trip.

As far as what side of the ship, I agree that any side of the ship is great because scenery can be seen on both sides of the ship. We did have an aft cabin which allowed us to see both sides and the wake of the ship. Talk about having your cake and eating it too! Plus, these are standard size cabins with enormous balconies!

We went the first week in August and had awesome weather.

Thanks for everyone's responses!

Right now I just booked a FV Aft End Cabin 8166 and booked for my sister 8002, my kids 8174, and my parents in SS 8117. I was thinking about the Concierge Class Aft cabins, but dh thinks its a good idea to have them in the middle of both daughters (literally - LOL!!) and that way we can breathe a little, and relax!! Also we feel that it would be nice for them to have the treat of having a Butler.

thanks again for everyone's help!

Excellent choice of cabins! We sailed the transatlantic last year in 8166 on the Millennium and have it again for next year on Infinity for our Alaska cruise. In my opinion, it's one of the best cabins on the ship

We have cruised Alaska twice (1989-Sept) and (2003-July). Sept is very WET, July was wonderful, only one day of partial rain. This past July we had a balcony cabin port side and enjoyed it tremendously (Infinity), especially when we were at Hubbard Glacier. The Captain allowed us to do 360's about 5 times (very slowly) so we could just sit on our Balcony with hot chocolate and enjoy the view. We can't wait to go again, but it will be a few years from now....
