mouche Posted November 5, 2010 #1 Share Posted November 5, 2010 My co-worker Tia and I had a great time aboard the Destiny, this was Tia's first cruise and my second time on the Destiny. We flew in the day before and had a great time in Miami, we got up early had breakfast and headed to the port, check in was easy and we were on board with in 20min. The ship looked great, everything was in tip top shape, when I think about how old this ship is and the wear and tear she endures I must say she has held up well. We did the norm for us which is head up to the lido deck for lunch, nothing special just the reg hot dog, french fries, hamburgers, no long lines as we were one of the first to board. I showed Tia around a bit, took lots of photos and went back down to deck 3 to watch everyone board and get our first DOD!!! IT WAS GOOD!!! Cabins were ready at 1:30 so off we went to my first balcony room ever, I love it, it will be hard to go back to an oceanview after this one, but I decided that when I travel with the girls I will do OV and when I'm with my FI I will do a Balcony. Tia and I were hardly ever in the cabin, we partied big time Our first night dinner was the so good, we had YTD and went around 8pm they were a little rusty getting things going but we could have cared less we took the beeper and went to one of the lounges until it beep. The food was hot, fresh and really really good, I can't say that for the 2nd night, but that was due to the service and not the food, it came out cool and some things were just cold. We still enjoyed dinner and our wine, we just ask not to be seated in that section the remainder of the cruise, and after that the dinner was great the food was hot, fresh, and the service was amazing. Let me sum it up buy saying the food on this ship is really good, the best I've had on a Carnival cruise and it was this way when I sailed her in 2009. Oh I forgot to say that when we went back to our cabin the first night we had note saying sorry we had to wait so long for dinner and a speacial treat, I thought that was a nice touch. Okay so on to Key West, we had a ball looking at all the sights and when I say sights I mean the Fantasy Fest sights LOL!!! I could not believe my eyes, those people put the P in party and that's all I'm going to say about that. Now on to Cozumel, we did the Isla Pasion by twister , IT WAS THE BOMB!!!! We had a great time on a beautiful island (Shout out to Ida, girl you are crazy). The food was just okay, but who cares this place was B-E-A-U-T-I-F-U-L and the rum punch seem to be good because my home girl Tia had her fare share, I drank beer only and it was nice and cold. Oh no!!! it my lunch break I'll finish this when I return in an hour. Whew!!! I'm back, after the great time in Cozumel we got back on the ship around 6:30pm I was still pumped up from the twister boat ride back so I went up on the lido deck to see what was going on, and they were winding down on the cupid sfuffle which I got in on and then headed back to the cabin with a DOD in hand. Tia was taking a nap so I just hung out on the balcony for a bit before dinner, I ask TIa if she were joining me but she grunted and I took that as a no LOL!!! (can anyone say rum punch). Oh well off I go by myself, I had a great meal again and did I mention that everyone was so polite and nice, always speaking, I'm talking about the guest and staff. The staff went over and beyond to make our cruise a joy, our room stewart was one of the nices guys I've had the pleasure sailing with and talking to everytime I saw him. Well it's HALLOWEEN and I got up to go out to take pictures of all the decorations and there were none, so I went to guest service to get a print out of my charges while there I askd where the decoration were, she stated oh no were boring "but I do have on pumkin earrings" so I said okay!!! Went back to the cabin a little dissapointed as I just knew they would have decorations and on the way there they were in a pile in several places, they were just starting to blow them up and my excitement returned. That night everyone seemed to be in costume, I know everyone did not dress up, but a lot sure did, Tia was a pirate and I was a sexy nurse. I will be posting my pictures on facebook, CC and cruisemates photo gallery. I took a lot of pictures of the ship, fantasy fest and halloween night on the ship. There were a lot of private parties on board and we managed to get invited to the baby boomers party( so Doreen if you're out there a big thanks and hug to you). That night in the disco was so much fun Tia and I danced with two guys dressed as snow white and the other was sleeping beauty what a riot!!!. FUN!!! FUN!!! FUN!!! I stayed in the disco as long as I could, I'm not a big fan of rap music so after a while I went to the casino, Tia is 12 years younger than myself so she close the place down!!! LOL!!! I got to the cabin around 2am with the best pizza in hand that I've ever had on any carnival ship and relaxed out on the balcony for the last night or should I say morning The morning came fast and leaving was so sad, I hate that part, but we must all endure it, debarking was a breeze we were off and at the airport by 10am. Our flight was a late one, 7:10pm, so we decided to catch the Airport Flyer to south beach, it runs every 20min for $2.35 each way, we got off at Lincoln road, we shopped, lunched and went out to the beach for some more pictures. It started to rain but that didn't stop us we bought ponchos and kept on walking rain an all. We then headed back to the airport around 5pm we checked in, went to the bar and had a couple of beers before boarding our smooth flight home. So, can you tell we had a great time on our trip? The Destiny is not through yet as some have said, she's had some problems, but all was fixed and well when we sailed her and I would not think twice about booking her for a third time, WE HAD AN AWESOME TIME!!! 1timecruiser Posted November 5, 2010 #3 Share Posted November 5, 2010 I'm on the Destiny on 11/15 with 3 of my friends (1 is my bestie/sis, the other 2 are my coworkers), and to boot one is 14 years older than me, but like you she is SOOOOOO much fun!!! I love outgoing people and this chick is a Zumba instructor, bellydances, and knows how to hang, so when I invited her, she was ecstatic and ready to go! (If you're reading this Lisa, I'm talking about you!! lol) I've read so many reviews here about the Destiny and of course started to get a little worried when they were discussing the propulsion issues again. I remembered your nurse pic, so was waiting on a review and feedback from your Halloween sailing. Glad to know that the kinks have been worked out and she's ready to go again. My only issue is, we're on there with Rick Springfield and his groupies, so not sure how that will work, but I hope we won't even notice. We're "go with the flow" types anyway, so relaxing and lounging are our biggest plans for enjoying the cruise vacation. I have said that I 'll participate more in some of the onboard activities, since this is my 4th cruise, and I've NEVER done any of them. I hope to close the nightclub down every night like Tia..the last girl's cruise I did, we had no problems doing that....I'm so ready to go!! Thanks for your review...I'm ready for some food, fun, and festive days on my birthday cruise.....we're going to also venture around Miami before heading back to TN. DEERINH2O Posted November 5, 2010 #5 Share Posted November 5, 2010 I too was waiting for you to return. I am sailing in December and am glad the Destiny is doing good. It takes alot to bring me down, so I don't really worry too much. If I am on a ship and they are feeding me DOD and food, then we are all good. Looking forward to seeing your pics. Can you post a link to where they will be when you post them. Thanks again for the review and glad you had fun! Kathy

Froufie Posted November 5, 2010 #8 Share Posted November 5, 2010 Glad you had a great time and thanks for the review! :D Just a few questions - what cabin were you in? Also in Cozumel I presume they adjust the 'tour times' to the ship schedule - what time did you leave for the twister/isla passion trip? And how long were you there. Curious about the airport flyer - where do you catch it? And what did you do with your luggage all day? Thanks!

peachhead11 Posted November 5, 2010 #10 Share Posted November 5, 2010 Thanks for the Destiny review. Glad to hear that you both had a blast. Did the Destiny 2 years ago with DH & in July with my 2 grown daughters. Loved it both times. It was my first balcony & now I'm spoiled and can't go back. Did you check your luggage at the airport then take the airport flyer? I don't suppose there are lockers at the airport. That seems to be a thing of the past. We are cruising on Destiny in March and have a 6 pm flight home. I was thinking about renting a car for the day so we have someplace to leave our luggage while we hang out in South Beach for the day. After reading your post, I'm wondering if it would be a better idea to take a taxi to the airport, then go back to South Beach.

Curious about the airport flyer - where do you catch it? And what did you do with your luggage all day? Thanks! Hey Froufie, In Cozmel tour times were done on ship schedule, we left the ship around 1pm and were on the twister boat by 1:30pm it's a 30 min AWESOME ride to the island and we left the island around 5:30 for 25min ride back. The Airport flyer is caught downstairs at the airport in section E, it's route 150 and it has about 4 stops before reaching Washington, Collins and the famous Lincoln rd. it runs every 30min. We always check our luggage at the airport, they charge by bag size and weight I have a very large suitcase and it weighed 55pounds and I paid $8.00 for the day. The bus is so much cheaper than catching a cab there and back or renting a car, I looked into both, we also notice that a lot of people use it when going to and from South Beach during their stay, and with huge luggage, they have luggage racks on this bus. Going to south beach made our late flight a breeze, who wants to wait at the airport all day when you could be seeing Miami:D OH!! I almost forgot, we were in cabin 6328, and I would not recommend this cabin to anyone who spends there evenings in there, right over the lounges and VERY noisy. We didn't care because we were hardly in the cabin in the evening, and by the time we got in for the night that particular lounge was close. Can't say that for those cabins that were over the disco though, I don't know how they slept, the disco was rolling til around 4am:eek: Also if you get a chance go to cruisemates photo gallery and check out my halloween photo's, I took lots of picture of the food, ship, halloween decor and costumes!!! We took a $10.00pp shared van to the airpot, no reservation needed just ask when outside of the port terminal, you will have to wait til they fill the van before leaving and it doesn't take long, also you won't be in a hurry with a late flight and all. The van will save you a few bucks.
