The toilet is in a separate room, but you step right out of the shower into the main room. Fine if you are with your significant other, but with kids or a girls trip would be very awkward. Didn't like the whole ship and beyond the big shows, nothing much to do at night.

The bathroom is not your typical layout of other ships. It is not a seperate room. There is an enclosed toilet on one side and an enclosed shower on the other with the "foyer" in between. My family did not have any issues with the layout, only that my 6'4" husband felt clausterphobic in the toilet area. The shower was fantastic, larger than on other ships we've been on.

If you look at Heinblod's link he was one of the first travellers in Europe and has very detailed pictures of the Epic.

btw, we loved our vacation aboard the Epic and we went for 2 weeks. We always had something to do. Go with an open mind and a great attitude, makes a vacation so much better!

As I understand it and those who have sailed her will have a better answer: the shower is in the main bedroom area, but with a curtain. The comode is indeed behind closed doors and walls.

Don't worry! The toilet is on one side, the shower on the other. They both have smoked glass doors, but you can't see in, just shadows. There's a curtain that runs from the toilet side to the shower side, so if you step out of either, you can be hidden behind the curtain from the others in the room. Several times my husband was in the shower & I was in the toilet room and we couldn't see each other at all. No big deal. Just enjoy the Epic, we loved it!!

Pictures are always worth a thousand words.

When you enter the room, the toilet is on one side and the shower on the other, but behind frosted glass doors. This entry/bathroom area is separated from the rest of the room with a curtain. The sink is is the same area as well, but actually on the "bedroom" side of the curtain.

As others have stated, it's a bit unusual for a ship, but not unlike what you might find in hotels. I stayed in a hotel in Amsterdam with the same layout, and even the same fixtures. We had 4 in our room and loved the flexibility this layout gave us for multi-tasking.

This shows the shower and the sink in a standard balcony cabin. The toilet enclosure is on the other side of the entry looks just like the shower enclosure.

Even though I thought the sink was a joke (way too small) - I thought that the bathroom layout was rather clever. My husband could take a shower while I did my make up in the terrible lighting under the sink. He could use the commode while I was in the shower. There was a curtain in front of it all for privacy. It worked out.

My DDs weren't too thrilled with it - but they made do.

And we had inside cabins.

I wouldn't be comfortable with the frosted glass if a Meet & Greet friend or room service came by. You have to open the shower door to get your towels. Nope, this ship is not for me.

I won't be able to convince you otherwise, the bathroom was never an issue. How would a meet and greet friend get into your room when you're in the shower? We also found this to be VERY effective for keeping staff out.

The layout is no big deal....we sailed on Epic in August and had no issues. Picture it this way, separate shower stall on one side, potty closet on the other. You can't really see anything through the frosted glass doors and you do have the privacy curtain if you feel it's necessary. Enjoy the Epic!!

My SO is not in the shower and answers the door.

That seems like a problem with the SO, not the bathroom. :D

Everyone is certainly entitled to their opinion and choices, but I can't fathom avoiding a ship on the off chance that someone might visit, and my SO might open the door, and I might at that exact time be exiting the shower, and the visitor might at that exact time see something. :) Just FYI, I usually put the shower mat down in front of the shower, then my bath towel on top of it so I could reach it easily. That way I didn't drip water out of the shower reaching for my towel, but could also solve some of your issue.

I'm confused by this statement. Just taking a random look at a night on the cruise (Day 2) this was the list of evening activities from the dailies:

*Blue Man Group

*Cirque Dreams Dinner Theater

*Second City comedy show

*Newlywed Game Show

*Fat Cats Blues Bar

*Casino

*Wildfire Duo in the Atrium

*Manhattan Band in the Manhattan Room

*Piano Man Bernie Martini at Shakers

*Late Movie: "Love Happens" in the Atrium

*Bliss Lounge dance club

*Legends Unplugged in the Manhattan Room

*Howl at the Moon

*Bowling at Bliss and O'Sheehan's

*Ice Skating on the Sports Court

*Genesis in concert on the big screen - Spice H2O

*Majority Rules Game Show

Seems like "much to do" to me.

That sums it up perfectly! There sure are a lot of people that have never sailed the EPIC terrified of the bathroom. I wonder how they manage to use public restrooms.

I had two kids in my room, 15 and 9. What do you want to know?

What I would like to know is, when getting dressed, for dinner for example, would you and the rest of the family just strip and redress in the room, in front of the rest of the family, or would you go into the toilet stall to dress? Were there hooks in there to hang clothes on while changing?

I don't mean to imply that this is the only way to do things, but I personally wouldn't run around in my underwear, or less, in front of my 18 year old son, so I can see the set up being a little problematic, for some families.

There is a curtain that runs the entire length of the room seperating the 'bath' and 'bed' sides of the room. Noone will see you unless they make an effort to.

As far as opening the door, they would have to cross through said curtain knowing you are in the shower and knowingly answer the door...

If anyone wanted some privacy they would simply go behind the curtain and dress.

Yeah....besides all that you listed, plus the martini bar, and cigar lounge, there really isn't anything to do....

:D

Not much to do at night? We didn't have enough time on our 7 day to do and see everything so we're going back in Jan ! Bathrooms are strange but I've stayed in some newer hotels which have the same setup.
