CaroleLee Posted December 20, 2010 #1 Share Posted December 20, 2010 Will post this on Italy, France,Spain & Other Boards- hopefully someone has an answer. Our cruise will visit Spain, France,Italy, Dubrovnik & Kotor. I would usually have VAT processed @ airport (BCN) however with so many ports do I/should I VAT processed @ cruise terminals? I know that certain dept stores have VAT desks within them. Are there VAT refund desks @ the cruise terminals? Port are BCN Villefranche Livorno Naples Civitavecchia Venice Dubrovnik Kotor Thanks Carole
euro cruiser Posted December 20, 2010 #2 Share Posted December 20, 2010 I've always understood that this is done as you are leaving the EU (as stated here: http://ec.europa.eu/taxation_customs/common/travellers/leave_eu/index_en.htm).

Thanks- what was confusing me was so many countries having their own regs. From your link I believe that I can do it all @ BCN as long as I meet the individual countries mim. euro cruiser Posted December 20, 2010 #4 Share Posted December 20, 2010 You're fine with the EU countries (Spain, France & Italy), but I'm not sure how it works with non-EU states (Croatia and Montenegro). There are plenty of people on these boards who have done this and one of them will likely pop in and share their experience.

agabbymama Posted December 23, 2010 #8 Share Posted December 23, 2010 I didn't even bother with the VAT as the rules concerning it were just so convoluted and I didn't usually spend anywhere near the $50 per purchase, or $200 purchases in France, Italy, Greece or Turkey. Just knew if the price was something I was willing to pay, that the tax was already included and I just ate it.

Tax refund Keep receipts for purchase you buy in Croatia and ask for a tax-free form for bills over 500 Kn (apart from petroleum derivatives); you qualify for a tax refund when you get home. Ask for a stamp at the border! If you intend to buy works of art, ask for export approval before you buy.
