My mother and I booked this cruise in April and up until we received the itininerary I was very excited about the prospect of visiting the Christmas markets along the Danube -- well, nothing in the itininerary mentioned the markets and when my travel agent called Viking she was told this wasn't a Christmas cruise at all and there would be no visits to the Christmas markets.

 

I feel very cheated by Viking and so disappointed that I would have cancelled had the company been willing to refund my money. I had travelled on Viking before and thought it was okay despite rather poor food and so-so cabin stewards, but this cruise will be my last on this line

 

Sorry to vent, hopefully, it will be better than I fear

I think you may be alright - there are Christmas markets all through this area. Even though Viking may not provide you with a specific excursion to visit one, you'll have plenty of free time to explore the markets on your own. My travel agent gave me some great information on the markets - if you want here's my email address: rmg0515 at ptd dot net. I think we'll be just fine -- the food and cabin steward I can't help you with!! LOL

Hi Camilla -- Me again! I just now got off the telephone with Viking and was assured there are Christmas markets in these areas we will be visiting. I spoke with a man originally who gave me the same basic info you had previously indicated you got, but I pressed the issue and was transferred to a woman named Claudia. She placed me on hold to double check, and upon returning explained that while there will be no specific excursions TAKING us the the markets, they are around to visit.
