Slot Pull: Questions on how to organize

I absolutely agree that I would not give the Casino advance warning of your arrival. I have run 2 slot pulls on 2 different ships. I never notified the Casino Manager in advance other than when we all walked into the casino. IMHO this gives them less time to "possibly" set the machine to pay off less. Maybe you would miss out on a free drink but I would rather win lots of money. The Casino manger and her staff were excellant when they saw so many people who were going to participate.

Here is what I posted on Cruise Critic on the thread for our cruise:

THE SLOT PULL

HOW DOES IT WORK? - Everyone who wants to participate will bring their $15.00 to the meeting spot. You will each get five (5) pulls on a dollar slot machine that utilizes $3.00/pull. The winning money will accumulate in the machine and that will be divided among the participants at the end of all pulls. The payoffs will be in even dollars.

The extra money above the even dollars will be awarded to the player who gets the group the highest amount on their slot pulls. Each person’s winnings will be recorded at the time of their pulls so we know who will get the side pot of the money after the even dollar pay-out.

WHEN WILL WE DO THIS? - We will meet XXXXXXXXX @ XXX on the starboard side of the casino Fiesta Deck 6 just outside the Casino. We will all go into the Casio together and start our play.

Payoffs will be handled immediately afterwards and handed out to all who joined in the Slot Pull.

· If you wish to participate' date=' please give me your name and cabin # in case there is any [u']change[/u] at all in the schedule and I can notify you. We need more people to make this lots of fun, so please join in. This is what I need for those who want to participate:

o Your names – first names only for each person who is going to participate.

o Your cabin # in case there is any change in plans and I can call and leave a message in your cabin

If you do not want to post that information here, you can email me at XXXXXXXX

By having this information in advance, I can make up a chart at home to track names the amount each person wins on their pulls.

I also have an Excel spread sheet that you can print in advance to track how much each person won for the group. If you will give me your email address, I will forward that spread sheet.

These are always great fun.

AWESOME INFO AND ADVICE.....Thanks...:D

We are thinking of organizing a Slot Pull on an up-coming cruise. Any suggestions on how to organize and run it? I have participated in one where everyone contributed a set amount and then had a set amount of "pulls" based on the $ amount playing. For example, $9 per person on $3 machine yields 3 turns per person.

Any suggestions on picking out a machine - progressive or otherwise?

Once play begins does it always continue until everyone has their turn, or could you stop, cash out and then continue until all had a turn if a fairly large  amount was won?

Any and all advise welcomed. :D

We did it on Liberty of the Seas this past March....did the Wheel of Fortune slot with everyone contributing $21 ( $3 max with 7 pulls)...the organizers husband kept count with a clicker as to how many pulls you had made so you didn't lose count...everyone played and then at the end the pot was distributed amongst all who played....everyone also signed in on a sheet by the organizer so that things were kept track of...it was done near the end of the cruise so that the slots could be looked at during the week to see which one would be played...wishful thinking if you think you could get away with cashing out early (who would ever think of doing such a thing)

And if you advise a casino manager in advance and he helps select the machine, don't you think that he is going to persuade you to a machine that has the lowest odds of paying out, or that the machine he suggests will be tightened up a little bit more than usual and lower the odds of paying out??? Just saying.

A few pointers based on recent experience............

DO NOT alert the casino that you are coming. We participated in one this past April on a RCCL shiip and there was 40 plus participants playing $15 each (5 pulls). The group coordinator alerted the casino and when we got there they escorted us to a machine, he put the key in it and said he had set to be "loose" for our group. With over $600 put into the machine, it hit only three times and at the end, there was less than $30 accumulated total.

Just bad luck? Maybe, but I had a bad feeling the second he stuck the key in the machine. I would NEVER ever alert them to it. NEVER! Just my thoughts - based on recent experience (and we've done it other times when there was less people and everyone got something back - even if it was only $5.)

Also, if people sign up - get the money upfront if you can. When it got down to the last dozen or so folks and they saw the machine wasn't hitting anything, 7 of them quickly disappeared (as in, why put my $15 in now???). Not quite fair to the other players........

Just some thoughts.

We did it this past summer on the CB. The organizer did a wonderful job. (He also organized the meet and greet.) He had everyone put their money ($20 each) straight into the machine to start and then marked you off. No money, no pulls. We played the max ($3) for, I think 6 pulls. After everyone had a turn, we took a vote as to whether to go again. I think continuing had to be unanimous. We continued on, maybe twice more. There were about 25 participants.

The casino manager gave us some gifts which were distributed to the highest returns last time through. I think we each also got $2-3 back. Although we did not win, it was a lot of fun. I would do it again.

Not quite fair to the other players........ I never thought about that. I have always had the people bring their own money to feed into the machine. I think I am torn on which way to go on that. If people disappear, oh well, they just did not want to have fun and who knows what the very next pull on the machine may bring.

Just some thoughts.

Thanks for the comments and something to think about. See my comments above.
