Bustersmom Posted January 17, 2011 #1 Share Posted January 17, 2011 Have AT&T as my carrier and in checking when, how and where cell phone can be used on the ship I was directed to the WMS website, which as noted here, is the major carrier on ships. I see AT&T has contracted with WMS to offer service on almost every major Cruise line out there, Carnival, RC, Disney NCL, Holland etc etc except Princess? I just found that remarkable and of course wonder what the reason might be? If anyone knows?
Toto2Kansas Posted January 17, 2011 #2 Share Posted January 17, 2011 It you go up to the search engine and put in ATT, you will pull up dozens of posts discussing this exact subject matter. ;)
Pam in CA Posted January 17, 2011 #3 Share Posted January 17, 2011 Both HAL and Princess use the same communication system. The cost to use your cell phone using the ship's cell service is $2.49/minute, charged by AT&T if that is your carrier. The cell tower is turned off when the ship is in port. Your best bet is to use your cell phone only when the ship is in port. I strongly recommend you get World Traveler for $5.99/month which will give you discounted per-minute rates when you are outside the US. Also, be VERY careful of data usage charges. Your US plan does not apply when you are outside the US and the cost is something like $20/Mb, which can add up quickly if you're checking mail or going to websites using your phone.
