No...it's a major resort area...

The adjacent city is actually called LaRomana...

 

I've heard they used to use "Catalina Island" (Not the one in the Pacific off SoCal, famed of song) as a private beach, but no longer...Now it's an excursion costing $$ as the ship docks in La Romana
