I have one friend who reccomended it, but haven't seen any threads about it. Thoughts?
Frank12 Posted February 7, 2011 #2 Share Posted February 7, 2011 http://boards.cruisecritic.com/forumdisplay.php?f=155 Try this link to the Key West board. You might find your answer here.
JDsafeman Posted February 7, 2011 #3 Share Posted February 7, 2011 I watched a travel show recently that featured Lloyd's tour. It went to some places that I have never seen in Key West. It looked like a lot of fun and made me want to go. Be sure to post your review if you do go.
lovermonkey Posted February 7, 2011 #4 Share Posted February 7, 2011 We are also heading there on April 16th. Actually it is the 18th that we will be there, but the boat sails on the 16th.
mcwebber Posted February 7, 2011 #5 Share Posted February 7, 2011 Hello! We are cruising April 16th out of NO going to the Keys and Bahamas!! Has anyone tried Lloyd's tropical bike tours? I have one friend who reccomended it, but haven't seen any threads about it. Thoughts? It's a great tour and well worth it. You see parts of KW you will not see otherwise and it's a lot less commercial. The Conch Train stops at several stores that are owned by the folks who own the train vs. Lloyd shows you the less commercial side of KW. You can see what on his site. When I took the tour Lloyd said that it can be booked via RCCL but not Carnival. The biking is easy because, like the rest of Florida, KW is pretty flat. Bring a bottle of water. The rental bikes have a basket. Or, a knapsack is handy.
moondog7751 Posted February 7, 2011 Author #6 Share Posted February 7, 2011 Thanks everyone! I have also found where some rent bikes and tour the island on their own. Someone posted that they go to the chamber of commerce and get a free tour guide map, and hit all the places of interest. That is another idea. More cost effective. I found bikes for $10 for 5 hours, and they meet you at the port!
flounder315 Posted February 7, 2011 #7 Share Posted February 7, 2011 We rented a little 4 seater electric car, the kids couldn't have pedal all around the island. The vendors will be there when you come off the peir.
conchead Posted February 7, 2011 #8 Share Posted February 7, 2011 As much as I love Key West having been there several times, even got married there on a sunset cruise, it is one place I try to avoid when looking at cruise ports. For most that have never been there and are wanting a tour of the island, I guess it would be ok. But, the town barely wakes up by 5 or 6pm. I love all the live music and atmosphere that goes on after dark. Key West is one of the few places that I don't mind sleeping in, usually since I stayed up so late the night before. Even my wife who is in bed by 9pm at home, is out on the streets at 1 or 2am when we are in KW. Now...if they had KW as a port with arrival about 4pm and departing midnight, I would do it in a minute;)
helicopter Posted February 7, 2011 #9 Share Posted February 7, 2011 We arrived in Key West at 3:00pm and departed at 1:00am. Really enjoyed it, took the conch train:) around the town.
