This is our first time on Cunard Cruise Lines, and we're leaving Thursday, Feb 17.

I'm sure many of you seasoned Cunard cruisers have some great tips... and just thought I'd ask before we leave...

tips... such as;

After going to your cabin,

what's the FIRST thing you do when you get on board?

Favorite foods?

Favorite Shop?

Best Entertainment venue?

Favorite quiet spot?

FAVORITE or BEST???

thanks

Mike, I just know you are going to have a fantastic time on my favourite Cunard ship. Here are my answers to your questions. The sensible answers are the ones in red (or it may be green, or orange, or pink, or...)

J

After going to your cabin,

what's the FIRST thing you do when you get on board?

Whatever the wife tells me to do!

(unpack first then, when that is under control, go on deck to photograph the local shipping scene)

Favorite foods?

Breakfast! Seriously - how long a list would you like.

(eggs benedict, grilled sea bass, black pudding (you have to ask for it but they can usually produce it ok))

Favorite Shop?

They have shops!!!? Actually, I think the wife mentioned those. Personally I try to stay away from them.

(no particular favourite, but I like the one that sells the Cunard branded stuff - I usually buy a T shirt or two)

Best Entertainment venue?

Definitely the theatre - absolutely fantastic

(as above)

Favorite quiet spot?

Anywhere where my wife isn't!

(anywhere on deck where I can point my camera over the rail without having too many people jostling my elbow)

Hello Mike,

I have not been on the QV, however I have been on the QM2 and all the ships are quite similar.

When you get to your cabin, your luggage may or may not be there. I like to wait until it is all there. Usually, it isn't all there so, I head off in all my excitement and check my dining room table location and then take a short and quick jaunt through the ship. And I head to the buffet for a very quick sandwich. Then back to the cabin where you almost always will find your luggage (all of it) has arrived. Unpack at that point--and you will be surprised how easily you will find a spot for everything.

Most of all the food is good. I have no favorites.

I really don't care about shopping much--I know that is rare for a woman.

I love the Commodore Club. I usually don't go to the shows. And the absolute best entertainment is right on the decks--watching the sea--and anything else you happen to spy while you are out there.

Any quiet spot on one of the decks is my favorite quiet spot.

My advise, just enjoy the ship. The Cunard ships are beautiful and remember, they are not hotels--they are ships, so try and enjoy just that--the movement, the sea air, the swells, the decks--and the fact that you are on a very impressive ship.

Oh and try to get up early--that is the absolute best time of the day on a ship!!!:)

I think you are listed to come to the "meet" Commodore Club 2p.m Friday 18th.

If not then come anyway, and meet other posters, I will have a name tag pinned on my jacket (just like a new kid on first day of school). So please come and say "hullo".

FIRST I dump my stuff then take a stroll around to say hello to anyone I know is working onboard. Then I get a glass of champagne in the Golden Lion and usually head up to the Lido pool to watch the sailaway.

Favourite food: The cheddar cheese soup is amazing!!! Pizza is really nice from the Lido. Escargots in garlic butter as delicious if they still have them on the menu.

Favourite shop: I don't really spend a lot of time in the shops but I quite like the sweet shop!

Best entertainment venue: Theatre is beautiful but I spend a LOT of time in the Golden Lion pub for the quizzes and karaoke. Also pre-dinner drinks in the Commodore Club...

Favourite quiet spot: Deck 3 promenade on the big deck loungers or the cabin balcony.

I'd like to add favourite cocktails to the list! Espresso Martini, Mango Margarita, Watermelon Gin Fizz from the Winter Garden.

Mike, here is my plan: Go to the stateroom, unpack the roll aboard, the big case will be delivered later, The to the Grills lounge for a bloody mary, and on to lunch. (Check out the table location, make any change request needed.)

After lunch go back and the other cases are there, so everything can be unpacked and the bags stowed. This a often a problem on the Victoria, but there is room under the beds for a couple of large ones. After that check on the life vests, locate the assembly area for that suite. A bit before the drill is scheduled to start, I walk down the stairs to my assembly area, to beat the rush and to get a seat.

Following the drill, give a few minutes for the stairways to clear, and climb back up to my suite.

I am doing my sail away with champagne on my Balcony this trip. Friends will be assembled at the Fire boat house along the main channel to wave good bye and they know where to find my balcony.

As to other favorites. The comodore club for afternoon drinks. A stroll through the shops to see if there is anything new (fair warning if you buy clothing wash it only in cold water- My XL shirt in the past shrinks to the point that my gardner who wears a medium is usually the recipient of any clothes purchased aboard) Occasionally there is something I want, but usually not. Exception is Johnnie Walker Blue in the duty free where the .7l can be had for $99. At least in the past. Its delivered to your suite on the last day.

I love the theatre and enjoy going to lectures and shows in it.

Favorite foods, Caviar with all the proper accompanyments, and broiled lobster tails with drawn butter and any dessert that flames, crepes suzette, cherries jubilee, bannas foster. On the Victoria, unlike the Mary, there are only certain areas where desserts can be flamed in the dining rooms to avoid setting off sprinklers.

Favorite quiet spots, the casino after breakfast, sea days, and my balcony with a good mystery from the library.

See you aboard.

Mike
