are actually allowed on some ships!

why can't all ships with kids pools do this!

If more ships did this, the companies would have to further decrease the quality of the food and service.

The lunch buffet will be fried chicken and a bunch of different salads... maybe a sandwich bar and pizza.

Can't have that, now! :p

They are not actually "pools" but more like sprinkler areas that drain off into their own filtration system. Toddlers enjoy them, though. Disney has had them forever and the RCCL Freedom and Oasis class ships also have them. I don't think any other lines have incorporated them into their newer ships but not sure.

It has been reported that some ships that don't have them just don't actively enforce the rule, but that's like playing Russian Roulette with your own kid's health as well as everyone else's. IMO, that's just plain irresponsible and rude.

Actually, on the RCCL Freedom and Oasis class ships, there's a very small actual pool (wedge-shaped on Freedom classes) that is for the non-potty trained set. The splash area is technically off limits to non-potty trained infants.

And isn't that just another example of how the cruise lines are not providing parents with sufficient information on this issue? At least once a month, a parent is shocked to learn that the cruise they booked will not have a pool available for their non-potty trained child. It's impossible to find the information on the cruise line's own website - a list of what ships have kiddie pools for kids in swim diapers, where these pools are located, and what those pools look like. Many parents report a lack of signage in the pool area, as well. It certainly appears that the "splash zone" with the sprinklers is for swim diapers, and many swim diapered kids are in the splash zone on RCCL and NCL Epic, but those are actually not properly filtered for swim diapers.

ETA: Here's a thread that explains more about how the sprinkler area is not for swim diapered infants, read down through a few posts: http://boards.cruisecritic.com/showthread.php?t=1174842&highlight=swim+diapers+carnival

Thanks for that link -- it actually explains what some of us have been saying for years. Just because it looks like a "baby pool" doesn't make it one. ;)

It names the ships that has the pools with the only exception being Allure of the Seas because the link is from 2009 and it hadn't been built yet. And I am assuming Disney Dream.
