AlaskaDay Posted March 13, 2011 #1 Share Posted March 13, 2011 We always make reservations for the Crown Grill at the Crown Grill right after we board the ship. We were lucky to get E731 on our next cruise and plan to do the Ultimate Balcony Dinner on our extended balcony. Can we also make reservations for the Ultimate Balcony Dinner at the Crown Grill or do we need to call the dining reservations number? Thanks! Astro Flyer Posted March 13, 2011 #2 Share Posted March 13, 2011 We prepaid (not necessary) so there was a card in our cabin & we called (DINE?) to choose when to enjoy our 1st UBD. It's done by room service & we selected an evening in Honolulu to minimize any weather related issues. It's only done twice per evening (6:00 & 8:00 on the Golden) but they said it's rare for all times to get booked. If weather is a problem, they can do it inside of your cabin. We enjoyed it a lot...great dining & service...and found it to be very worthwhile. The meal was different than what's in the Crown Grill & every bit as good...steak or steak/lobster...and heard that modifications could be possible. Since it was our 1st UBD we didn't change the menu & it was great. It's a good thing there's a mini-fridge in each cabin because that's where most of our desert ended up until the next day. Considering what you get (photo, roses, champagne & cocktails) for $50 more than the Crown Grill...it's also a good deal & great to enjoy on the balcony. They serve a course & then magically reappear when it's time for another course. They served desert about 1:15 after it began & said to just call room service when we were ready for everything to be removed. With 2 waiters (plus the room service manager's greeting) we tipped extra for such a great experience but it's not required & is a personal choice. Can you tell how much we enjoyed it & plan to do it again the next time we have a balcony cabin! :D While it's a different experience than the Chef's Table, it is a much more intimate dining experience but I'd highly recommend both of them.
