rkmw Posted March 18, 2011 #51 Share Posted March 18, 2011 David i came across this on the Princess board 3/17/2011 Japan Update We are closely monitoring the aftermath of the devastating earthquake in Japan and the evolving situation with the damaged nuclear reactors. Our thoughts and prayers continue to be with the people of Japan during this difficult tragedy. Princess ships are currently scheduled to call at ports in Japan beginning on March 28, and we will take all necessary steps to protect the safety and well-being of our passengers and crew. We have not yet determined if there will be itinerary changes to future cruises, but our decisions will be guided by advice from the U.S. Department of State and other authorities. We intend to finalize our plans and communicate any changes on princess.com by end of day (PST) tomorrow, as well as issue notifications to all impacted passengers

Billy and Charlie's Mum Posted March 18, 2011 #54 Share Posted March 18, 2011 We are due to go to Sapporo and Nagasaki early May on the Diamond Princess. I haven't heard anything yet, but will let you know as soon as I do.
Australian family Posted March 18, 2011 #55 Share Posted March 18, 2011 And the Volendam is due to go to Japan early May, with a cruise starting in Kobe, and then going to these ports: Yokohama, Hakodate, Kushiro, Japan. It must be a logistical nightmare for the cruiselines to reschedule their cruises, and especially given that the Volendam is commencing one of its cruises in Japan. Also that it is so close to the commencement of the cruise.

Kiwi Kruzer Posted March 19, 2011 Author #61 Share Posted March 19, 2011 I think they have done a very good job, under the circumstances. They must have been burning the midnight oil at Santa Clarita to get all that organised. Everything is the same up to Hong Kong and then again from Saipan. Gold Coast Cruisers Posted March 19, 2011 #63 Share Posted March 19, 2011 No Cherry Blossoms this year then... Yes I saw on TV that Travel Insurance does not cover Radiation contamination at any time. Then it was reported that some 'contamination' had reached the USA.... ??? Surely not? Hopefully the media report was incorrect. Jilly:)

Then it was reported that some 'contamination' had reached the USA.... ??? Surely not? Hopefully the media report was incorrect. Jilly:) Our news reports (those that have not been fed by hysteria but by facts) say that there has been an almost insignificant uptick in radiation levels here on the West Coast of the USA; equivalent to about 1/10th of the radiation one would get from a standard chest XRay. However the situation is still dynamic, so who knows what may be coming.
