Sail and Sign deposit

Can you have your sail and sign account set up with both a debit/credit card and a cash deposit? We currently have our funpass set up with our debit card but were curious if we'd be able to throw some cash on our account as well to off set the bill.

Absolutely. You can put cash on the account at any time from the moment you embark. I ended up putting cash down halfway through the cruise after I had a lucky moment in the casino.

You can go down anytime you like and close the card and then put down cash. If you are using your debit card, I would advise putting down cash at the beginning (because of the holds). There is not a set amount you have to put down (only a suggested amount). They will take whatever you give them and apply it to your account:)

FYI- please be aware what holds are not released the same day that your payment post to your account. For example, we got off the ship on Sunday and they charged our debit card $3k for our bill, which was fine. The payment posted from our bank account on Monday, but holds were still pending. I thought the holds would be released as soon as payment posted, but they didn't. I called Carnival and asked about it and was told hold would be there until payment posted.

I told them payment did post and the additional holds were still showing as "pending" on my account were like a double charge. So, now Carnival has already received their $3k from my bank account but still has another $3k being held out of it. They said the hold would be released after midnight on Wednesday. I told them that was ridiculous since they already received full payment from my account.

I asked what I'm supposed to do about having my other $3k unavailable for 3 days after they already have their payment? $%#@!:mad::mad::mad:

So, just be very aware, that they can hold the full amount for a 2nd time for 3 business days even after they take full payment from your account. It caught me off guard for sure.

Thanks for the replies. We have been setting aside spending money and plan to take cash with us. We planned on putting that down as a deposit on the cards but wanted to have our debit cards as back up if we spend more than we planned (hopefully we won't ;)).

That's why I always use credit cards, pay them off in full, rather than use debit cards with ANY business. Much more protection and leeway with credit cards.

Correct, that's exactly how they do it. We ALWAYS us a regular credit card. That way, if they over auth it, doesn't actually hold money out of your checking account.

Debit card holds are the worst when travelling. Depending on your bank, it could take 7-10 business days for those "holds" to clear:eek:. This is when the bank makes its money in overdraft fees and what not:mad:. Carnival releases all holds at the end of the business day that you leave the ship.

You can always go to the ATM if you need to and get cash to go put on your S&S:)

FYI- Carnival does not release the holds on the day you leave the ship. Their standard practice is 3 business days after payment post to the bank account. The actual payment posts to your bank account on the first business day when you get off the ship but the holds remain for 3 business days. I found that out the hard way with an "extra" $3k unavailable in my account right now.

I will never again use my debit card on the ship. I'm really trying not to use credit cards for anything right now, so I guess, I'll just bring a load of cash with me next time instead of giving them my debit card.
