My wife and I are Non-smokers and we have a son with asthma. We were wondering where there is smoking allowed on the ship and should we worry. I have nothing againest smokers but i am just curious about how much smoking there is on board and where you can and can't smoke.

We were on the Elation March 12-17. Smoking was allowed in the casino and only on the right side of the ship (starboard, I think). Maybe some of the bars. No smoking in MDR, Cole Porter Lounge or Mikado theatre. I hate smoke but I was never bothered by it on the cruise. Seems the smoke in the casino was worse at night. Hope u enjoy your cruise.

Smoking is also allowed in all cabins, except for Spa Cabins, and on all balconies. There will be a list in the daily Capers? Can't remember if that's the new or old name, so you can avoid the smoking areas, plus on one side of the open air deck.

I would suggest that you do what you normally do when you go outside, which is to avoid those areas, and bring what ever medication he may need. Not trying to be a smarty....I have friends with asthma, and this is what they do.

On the Elation....

smoking is allowed in the cabins (and with the space under the doors) it can travel into the hallways....

So I carry a bottle of Ozium (Walmart Auto Department) to keep our cabin fresh.

How smoky the Promenade is will depend on the number of smokers onboard.

Since the Casino is "open" to the Promenade and the Cigar Bar is "open" to the Promenade....smoke will travel.

The other designated smoking areas inside are the Piano Bar, the Disco and the cover band lounge.

The outside area has smoking on the Starboard side only. However, out by the pool, people get to drinking and they pretty much walk around without thinking about which side of the ship they are on.

The Elation is a beautiful ship....but asthma is nothing to fool around with, so I wanted to make sure you had as much information as possible to make an informed decision...

cigar bar is bad and so is the piano bar late at night, but he won't be going there anyway. Casino can be bad sometimes late at night as well.

Cigar bar had smoke? I hope so! :D

I'm sure the cigar bar can't hold a candle to the casino. It even runs ME out of there!

Carnival is one of the most smoker friendly cruise lines.

Not commenting on whether that's good or bad--just a statement of fact.

I don't even notice it, but DW does, especially when passing through the casino at night. If tobacco smoke is a serious health consideration for your child, you might consider an alternative line with a more restrictive smoking policy.
