Murphey Posted April 4, 2011 #1 Share Posted April 4, 2011 We plan to be in Ireland for a week prior to our cruise from Southampton. Shannon would be the most convenient airport...but we will have luggage (lots). What are you recommendations? We have done Ryan Air, but our luggage would make it pretty costly (same with Easy Jet).....Thanks.
maryann2 Posted April 4, 2011 #2 Share Posted April 4, 2011 If you are flying with Aer Lingus the Transatlantic allowance will continue for up to a 14 day stopover in Ireland. Aer Lingus: Help - Baggage Information

As someone else already pointed out, if you're flying EI/Aer Lingus, an up to 14 day stopover is allowed in your journey. The european portion of the flight then also carries the trans-oceanic luggage allowance. That being said, your options on EI from SNN/Shannon (with a reasonable connection back to Southampton) are: 3x daily LHR/Heathrow; then bus service to Southampton (2hrs) 1x daily LGW/Gatwick; then train service to Southampton (2hrs) 1x daily BHX/Birmingham; then train service to Southampton (2h20m) Also to note, FlyBE operate DUB-SOU/Southampton flights; if getting back to Dublin is a possibility, but you'll pay more for luggage on FlyBE, than the free continuation luggage allowances on EI.
