cpgrneyes Posted April 6, 2011 #1 Share Posted April 6, 2011 Here's a new offer on British Air - 50,000 miles with a new BA Visa, plus an additional 50,000 if you spend 2,500 on the card in the first 90 days. It's advertised on BA's home page. The card is $95 per year, and I'll happily pay that for 100,000 miles!
Rare FlyerTalker Posted April 6, 2011 #2 Share Posted April 6, 2011 Gary Leff gives a nice rundown on the BA offer HERE.
bluesea777 Posted April 7, 2011 #3 Share Posted April 7, 2011 There's at least one catch. When you redeem BA miles for "free" tickets you will end up paying much higher taxes/surcharges/fees than other airlines. And $95 pa is too high. I'd rather get a AA credit card with 50,000 miles than get a BA one with 100,000 miles.
cpgrneyes Posted April 15, 2011 Author #4 Share Posted April 15, 2011 Bluesea, true with the BA flights and their charges, but you can use the miles on any OneWorld partner INCLUDING American.
PennyAgain Posted April 15, 2011 #5 Share Posted April 15, 2011 The BA card has advantages and seems like a sweet deal if your line of credit can handle having another credit card. Be careful that getting this card could raise the interest rates on other credit cards you have.
erdoran Posted April 16, 2011 #6 Share Posted April 16, 2011 If you use your BA miles to book on a partner, do you still pay BA's inflated fees? ie I'm flying business class on Iberia from PHL to BCN (thanks to this board for helping me figure this out!!) using my AA miles. Would I have paid more if I booked the identical itinerary on Iberia using BA miles or would I pay the same as I am paying now through AA, which is I think about $45 for my one-way ticket. cpgrneyes Posted April 17, 2011 Author #7 Share Posted April 17, 2011 My understanding is that fees on partner airlines are much lower. There's a great source of airline info at thepointsguy dot com.
