Meet & Greet???

If you visit the "roll calls" on cruise critic you will find you can join a discussion group for just about any cruise. Folks who are booked for a specific cruise gather there to talk about the cruise, ports, ask questions, share information. Cruise critic has so many members that there is usually a roll call for most any cruise. If there is no roll call for your cruise you may start one.

Usually some one on the roll call volunteers to contact the cruise line and set up a "meet and greet" party on board during your cruise. This is a time and place for the folks who participated in the on line roll call discussions to meet. Most cruise lines provides snacks and coffee or juice for the group. Often the cruise director or some of the officers visit during the meeting. Those who have followed the roll call know when and where to go. Holland America treats these gatherings as private parties.

I have found, over the years, that you meet the best people at the meet and greets, as well as on the roll call on line discussions. We have forged some long lasting friendships that way.

Odds are, you have already booked private excursions for some of your port calls and some of the people you have meet online in your Roll Call will be going on the excursion with you. Perhaps it is the other person who arranged the excursion with the provider. Here is your chance to get together and meet each other and arrange where to meet for the excursion. Meet and Greet meetings are very important and you will meet people you will keep in contact with for many years at these meetings. They are great!

some of the roll calls are very active and actually arrange to get together on the ship

others -- just a place for people to talk

i see that you are on the nieuw amsterdam in june -- check out your roll call here - you will have to hunt for the date of your cruise:

Sometimes it is do it yourself. pick and time and place and have your own "meet & greet" without the ship's arrangements.

For example... we would meet at the aft pool at 1700 and we are will all wear beads.

Or we would agree to meet on the promenade deck by a certain bar/lounge right after departure.

I hosted a M&G the end of Feb. on the Westerdam. Since we had an aft wrap around we were able to have 18-20 people from our rollcall. It was fun. We got plenty of food delivered from the Neptune Lounge. Service was wonderful. I'd do it again if and when we cruise.:)
