Rare BillOh Posted April 19, 2011 #26 Share Posted April 19, 2011 I'm assuming they caught the perpetrators. Do you know who it was, eg. male, female, old or young, idiot.:p The OP also said it was the last port day. I'd be curious, but could live without knowing :D, if they caught the person before they left port and had local authorities deal with it, or they had to be held until the end of the cruise. If they didn't catch them, can you imagine how they thought they were going to get a large quantities of quarters off the ship? I can imagine the staff shaking every bag as it was taken off the ship. Ok, I'll admit being this close to my cruise I'm practically living in this forum, but this made me think of another thread where people talked about leaving E-readers on their pool chair while they got up. If every person was assigned a moral character score like a credit rating, I would tend to guess that a sampling of a 1000 person group on a cruise might be higher than a similar sampling elsewhere in life, but there is always the bottom part of any group. Fascinating story. As Jay Leno says, "What do I love?, Stupid Criminals
Rare BillOh Posted April 19, 2011 #27 Share Posted April 19, 2011 Watch...coming down the pike: they'll close it off when the casino is closed so that passengers won't even be able to walk through. Some people are so stupid. Excellent point, that happens so much in life these days, punish the many for the actions of the few. On so many ships that would be a real inconvenience to getting around. Plus on embarkation day I like to walk around and learn the layout of the place.
Shekim Posted April 19, 2011 #28 Share Posted April 19, 2011 does he win anything? this past cruise he won several 20's and a guy sitting next to us one evening took out a $50 and 6 $20 bills! I would say it was a wash with my husband playing. But we're talking HOURS of entertainment on less than $100.
Rare BillOh Posted April 19, 2011 #29 Share Posted April 19, 2011 A conversation overheard at Guest Services.... "Hi, I'd like to pay off my on board account, please. Do you mind if I pay in quarters?" :D On a barely related topic, I was sitting in the Pan Am boarding lounge in Santiago, Chile and I sat next to another American. When he got up, he moved a small gym bag and it was obviously full of change. I asked him what all the change was for and he told me that the Chilean 2 peso coin (around a 5 cent value at that time) was the same size and weight of the American quarter. He would bring back thousands of them on every trip and use them in vending machines all over his local area.

trailercruiser Posted April 19, 2011 #38 Share Posted April 19, 2011 Poor guy probably was on CC and heard "It is my cruise, I can do what I want!!!!!" Supposedly the guy wore a tux every night in the MDR and would watch what everyone else wore and then would complain (fashion police), I figured it would be a fashion police, tux wearin guy that did this.;)

GarrettWasHere Posted April 19, 2011 #40 Share Posted April 19, 2011 First time poster here. This occured right next to our favorite bar Schooners. From talking with the bartender Dan (who witnessed the whole crime and called security) the perpetrator was suspiciously lingering around the casino entrance for a while, and at one point shoved a set of silverware into his pocket as if he was stealing it. From there, he walked over to the coin machine and threw a barstool through the glass and grabbed some change and ran. Dan the bartender then called security and at first were unable to locate the man. After an hour or so, the guy who stole the money actually came back and stood in front of Schooner's for a bit. Dan recognized him immediately, called security again and the guy was arrested. After interviewing him it sounds like there were some mental issues going on, he may have forgotten to take some medication. Last I heard he was locked in his room by security and they were deciding whether or not to turn him over to the San Juan police.
saraet4464 Posted April 19, 2011 #41 Share Posted April 19, 2011 It really is true that criminals like to return to the scene of the crime. Many of them are curious to see how people react to their criminal activity; sometimes to get an idea if "someone" is on to them and sometimes for personal satisfaction to seeing the reaction. Dumb, dumb, dumb.

mamapan Posted April 20, 2011 #46 Share Posted April 20, 2011 Where did this guy think he was going to hide?! It's not like he can go all that far...he's out at sea...on a ship...it's not THAT big... I'm going to chalk it up to the previous being off the meds explanation & hope that someone isn't that dumb in an "average" state so that I still maintain a shred of hope for the future of humanity...yikes.
