Barcelona transportation with Small Children

Hello, I cannot seem to find a concrete answer to this. We are taking our toddlers (4 and 2) on Carnival Magic TA in October, leaving from Barcelona. We are flying into Barcelona a day or two early to acclimate, we were thinking a taxi from the airport to the hotel would be the easiest transportation, but we are not planning on hauling car seats with us. Are car seats required in Taxis there? Looking for some suggestions from others who have BTDT; it's a 16 day voyage and the Mrs doesnt pack light, so thinking the Bus may not be a good choice.

thank you.

Car seats for children are required in Spain.

From one web page:

http://drivinginspain.blogspot.com/search/label/Belts%20and%20helmets%20etc.

From another:

The law in Spain requires that a baby or young child be secured with a child safety seat when being transported in the car. If you do not wish to bring your own child safety seat then ask the attendant at the taxi rank to find you a taxi with a child safety seat. You may have to wait longer until a taxi fitted with a child safety seat is available. Generally the types of taxis that have a child safety seat are the larger small "taxi van" type taxis.

Another site:

Children in cars: Children under 12 cannot travel in the front unless using a suitably adapted restraint system. In the rear, passengers under 135cm tall must use specially adapted safety devices and restraints.

I used taxis about 4 times last summer in Barcelona, and don't remember seeing any child seats in the trunk, but I could be wrong. My youngest is 10 now. When he was younger, I felt better bringing my own car seat/ booster for travelling if we were going to be driving on highways.

I used this convertible stroller/car seat up until he was about 2

After that I used an inexpensive booster that cost about $20, which is still cumbersome, but it's less so than a full car seat.

I haven't tried this inflatable car seat, but it looks interesting:

Dear friends:

Greetings from Madrid.

There are always hundreds of taxis on the taxi queue at Barcelona airport. Ask for a car with a child seat.

Or reserve a taxi with child seat in advance. All of the taxi dispatcher services in Barcelona let you do this. Here's a reprint from one of the services I just saw on http://www.taxibarcelonabcn.com. Please note that this service is equivalent to reserving a regular metered taxi. It is not a private transportation service.

Kind regards,

Gunther and Uta
