Carnival now Sponosring Meet & Greets

Many people hold an informal meet and greet on embarkation day at the aft Lido bar usually late afternoon before the muster, as people arrive on the ship and get organized. And then have a formal one somehwere else on the first sea day.

I like this idea of a location on embarkation day so you have a place where the group can actually assemble and find/know who you are. Not scattered where nobody really knows who is in the group. You can always have another formal meet and greet too.

On our next cruise we have no sea days for 4 days as we are in European ports. So an embarkation day meet and greet will be great. Will watch the Fun Times to see where it is scheduled.

Carnival could really learn a lesson from the way NCL handles CC get-togethers. Both a ship's officer and usually the hotel director attend each and every one, giving informative talks, answering questions, and even offering a free bridge tour to attendees! I found the whole thing very impressive!

That would be wonderful! If John had it his way I'm sure that it would be like that.

I agree Mach... Nice gesture, terrible time... All passengers aren't even on the ship yet, still looking around, unpacking, eating lunch etc.... First full day (which most times is at sea) is much better for timing...

2:30 on embarkation day?

Ill timed, for sure.:p

No one will really come IMHO.

I posted this quite some time ago when I was told that they would start doing this. No one really seemed to care!

:)

if it's not like rccl, where they provide drinks and an officer, sometimes the captain as a guest, why would they?

and 2:30 on embarkation day is just too silly a time.

Year on the Pride we had our Meet & Greet on the day we left at about 3:30 in the back of the ship, it was well attended, then we all met the next morning at 10 or 11 in the Casino to do a slot pull. It was so much fun. We put in like $10 a piece.......wifes & husbands included. Then we put the money in one machine. We took turns at the slot. It was fun. Lasted maybe an hour. We had laughs & started our cruise with a bang. The best meet & greet group so far.

I think that this is great!

On my last two cruises we were maybe a little too vague on our meeting places and the whole group didn't get to meet up (on the first cruise, I missed the big group of CC roll call members and on the second cruise, other people reported not finding our group of around 25-30 people).

At least this will give a definitive time and place. And it means that we can still be up on deck during sailaway snapping pictures (instead of socializing).

Here in San Diego folks are still getting on the ship at 2:30PM so I don't think that is a very logical time.

The first sea day in the piano bar would make more sense. I agree that having a set location is a great idea.

I have been to a Meet n Greet on the Spirit where officers from the ship were there and introduced themselves.

It was really great!!

Well, "darned" if they do, and "darned" if they don't!

Our official stand on this is a great big thanks to Carnival for recognizing the loyalty of Cruise Critic members -- no matter what the time of the gathering is, or what is offered at said gathering.

For the record, too, Royal/Celeb/ACC have drinks -- but not of the alcoholic kind. Lemonade and iced tea are served; sometimes coffee and danish.

Always in the past, I've set up the informal "meet-n-greet" to be held at the aft pool bar, right after the life boat drill. That's always seemed to work well, and then sometimes there'll be another more formal "meet-n-greet" the following day, with drinks, snacks, etc. I applaud "Carnival", and John Heald for the extra effort, and putting something together for us. BRAVO!

On the Millennium a couple of years ago we were offered sparkling wine and mimosas. Also the Captain and many officers were introduced.

we had free full fledged mixed drinks on royal (nothing offered on a 5 day cruise, though).

I am very happy :Dthat Carnival is doing "something". I love being a member of this community. We are still in contact with several of our Roll Call members from our first cruise. If 2:30 on embarkation day is the time, then I'll be there. Just I feel that many will not think its that important, or will just be too busy getting aclamated to the ship.

BTW, I am certain I read a recent review which indicated RCL supplied alcoholic beverages at their M & M.

I think it is a great gesture. Roll call people who can make the 230pm one, well great, you can always plan your other one too. A lot of people are already on the ship and have even eaten lunch by 230pm. It is impossible to please everybody so have 2 meet and greets, this one and your own before or after muster, the next day or whenever your roll call wants to meet.

My particular Carnival Magic European cruise has no sea days till 4 days out and not every itinerary has a sea day the next day. So if Carnival's meet and greet time and place is on embarkation at 230pm that sounds great. Whoever can make it will probably like to be there. Or try and get there when you can to the venue they schedule and see who is still there later on.

every meet and greet i have orchestrated on day 1 trying both 2:30 and 3 have gone bust, cause everyone stated afterward they were just so excited "meeting" the ship at that hour.

I am trying to organize one for our Breezer's cruise that leaves on the 24th of Nov 2012 but I am trying to get it booked for the 1st at sea day so everyone will be able to attend that wants to attend...but..

I know for me the 2:30 thing on embarkation day will be fine as we usually get the 1st shuttle available to get to the ports early enough to eat and look around the ship..:D

They are simply providing a location... nothing else but it was great of John to arrange this. The folks on the Conquest have been doing this for months. The location is Blue's piano bar, time 2:30 PM on the first full day of the cruise, which in my opinion, is far better than embarkation day...

:)

I agree with the first full sea day being a better time to do it. I've been on a few (last month for example) where embarkation has been delayed, or had problems and the M&G's have been missed because of it.
