Whats the schedule usually? How long is the captain on for? I'm too lazy to read thru the whole thread sorry. :) Just wondering if Captain Olav will be back on for our May 10 cruise on Explorer.

Captains rotate every 10 weeks. The Captains usually work together on this.........sometimes it could be a week or so less than 10 weeks or a week or so longer than 10 weeks.

Just curious if there are people who cruise a certain ship because a certain captain is in charge? Not sure if that made sense but does anyone pick a ship based on the captain?

Yes. If the staff and crew like their Captain, you will see this in their performance around the ship.

ABSOLUTELY!!!

 

It was the Captain who ruined a cruise for us on the "Big O." You could feel it in the crew. :(

 

It is tough to know just who will be the Master of your vessel, given planning time lengths, rotation, etc... so in essence it is a crap shoot if you do not care for a particular individual.

 

 

We love cruisin'! :cool:

hi wolfman i will be on the freedom on august 26 2012 who will be the CAPTAIN

 

I counted out the 10 week rotations and if my current start date for Capt Rob is correct, you should have Capt Tor Olsen, if he doesn't get moved to a different ship.

If you could find someone with a cruise compass from that sailing, they could look it up. I wonder if wolfcathorse keeps a history.

Since Karen started her original Current Captains thread in 2006, I'll bet the information you want would be on that thread which has since been closed and archived. Maybe Karen has a link to it.

Thanks. I was just curious. The recent Costa tragedy had me thinking about past captains I have had and how I thought they performed as captains. We've had captains who have taken us through bad weather and a captain who got us through the infamous (sort-of) "Explorer of the Seas Propellor Incident of 2009". Family and I will be cruising in less than 2 weeks and I was curious to know whether we have had the scheduled captain before.

I don't think any RCI captains are Italian but I could be wrong. Mostly Northern European with a few captains from the Americas sprinkled in.

 

I think Captain Zini qualifies as being Italian and if you check the entire list of Captains and then add in the staff captains, you will find a wide variety of nationalities represented. Clearly the seagoing tradition of the Scandinavians makes their prominence on any list understandable. Regardless of their nationality, the captains we have sailed with have demonstrated definitely superior skills that have earned them their position as Ship's Masters.
