thescot123 Posted July 25, 2011 #2 Share Posted July 25, 2011 Went to the May Key resort last and did get about 6 bites on my legs. This was not a lot considering that I saw one guy with lots on his back. I didn't spend much time on the beach, this might have saved me, as I spent the majority of the time snorkeling. I believe I got these bites from walking on the sand to see the rescued animals. I have heard that most beaches have these pests (no-see-ums). Some people rub cactus oil, as it is natural, on there bodies. I will take a small bottle of 100% deet next time to be sure.
Rare crewsweeper Posted July 25, 2011 #3 Share Posted July 25, 2011 Most beaches in West Bay rake their sand daily. Same at Mahogany Bay. However, might not prevent sand FLIES (not FLEAS), i.e. no-see-ums, fro getting sensitive persons. Best to use bug spray along with suntan lotion. Take some Benedryl aniti-itch ointment or other insect sting medication too. apply as soon as you can after the sting. These will disappear ina coupel of days. Othe radvise is to not lay on the beach in the shade of any trees.
