I will never think RCI drink prices are high again

Recommended Posts

Go to any bar at a casino. There will be a poker machine or a roulette machine right at the bar. Put a $20 in it. Bartender comes over, you order a drink, and it is free. At this point, you have not taken any spins on the machine.

Get your drink, hit the cash out button on the machine, and you will get a ticket that you can go cash in for the $20.

I don't play VP. Also, Wynn apparently stopped comping VP players at the bars.

But most places still do, but they check to see if you are really playing. Also, most won't comp the "specialty" cocktails. Only basic drinks.

I tend to think that the price for scotch on the ships is very reasonable. I think that I was paying about $8.75 for a couple fingers of Macallan Select Oak or Glenlivet 12, and that's probably a buck or a few cheaper than you can get at restaurants or bars in the States.

Now, if only I didn't have to actually instruct the bartenders how to serve it so that they don't drown it in ice, I would be all set!

It is cheaper without the souvenir cup?

Living & working in the NY/NJ metro area, $9-$10 (including tip) for a drink is actually not bad, and considered an average price for a libation in our neck of the woods (which we consider the center of the known universe). :)

I ask for two ice cubes only in my scotch ... if I see them adding more, I won't accept the drink. ;)

Prior to boarding Mariner we were buying good bottles of wine for 4 Euro, less then $6. Now that's good value.

Are you buying this from RCI? If not, beware that RCI will search your luggage and if they find it, they will confiscate it.

Have been hitting the casino bars in Vegas for quite a few years and have not had this happen. Drinks ordered at the bar are paid for even when playing poker. Can you let me know where this happens? Thanks.

I do it in Atlantic City all the time. Specifically the Borgata. Works every time.

Or, as the previous poster said, go to the penny slots and you will get free drinks.

Always ways to get free drinks in a casino.

sure..

they are "free"

Penny slots? Heck. usually they will cost me $3 or more a spin.

In a casino, if I really want a drink, I just buy what I want. I don't play *just* to get the "free" drink.

If I am playing and the server comes around I will usually grab a drink but I won't play just to get a drink. It is cheaper just to buy them.

yup.

My "free" drink could cost me $60, waiting for the cocktail waitress to come by to take an order, then to get the drink. Heck, more ofthen than not I don't even ask for anything. I'm a "short attention span" gambler are a slot. I usually don't spend too much time at any one. I might be gone by the time she would get back with a drink. :o

Pina Colada by the pool @ Paris Las Vegas, $26 not including gratuity. And that's in a plain plastic glass!

Wow ... I spent hours by that pool every day for a week, just two weeks ago ... my daily pina c's were $14 plus tip. I thought that was expensive!

As I posted earlier, in AC, the Borgata, I go to the bar. I put a $20 in the machine. I get my free drink. I then cash out my $20.

My drinks are 100% free.

ALL THE TIME.

Never played in AC.

In Vegas, they usully make sure you are actually playing. And frequently, at max credit for the bar top VP machines.

$8 for a yummy tropical drink

I have always been suspicious of these, especially drink fo the day, and how much alcohol is in them. Very easy to disguise. Why we tend to drink only "on the rocks", beer or wine. And after being regulars at the same bar and investing in good tips we find the increase in quantity really brings the "value" up quite a bit.

Whether the ship's drinks are expensive is a relative thing (as noted) based on where you live or vacation. In the Twin Cities area prices are very comparible to the ship but go 50 miles into any rural area and they are likely to be half the cost. One of our favorite taverns on vacation is Butch's Place in Kirby, WY - about a rural as you can possibly get. Tap beers for a buck (and not a loss leader like in LV) and monsterous sized hamburgers. For someone from around there the ship prices would be a real shock.

Oh, I forgot about those! As many times as we've stayed at Paris, I have yet to get one myself ... maybe next time!

I go out often and know how much drinks go for, so I was worried about what drinks would cost on the ship. But after seeing that most drinks are around $6-8, I'm relieved! $8 for a yummy tropical drink is way better than a $9 vodka/cranberry.

ITA! $6-8? I'm happy with that!

I was very impressed on a recent Allure cruise by the quantity of alcohol and the quality that was used even in mixed drinks. Prices also seemed very reasonable compared to many places we frequent where a vodka on the rock can cost way more than Royal charges.

Well I think that the Drink prices are very reasonable compared to land resorts like Disney. The Disney drink prices are very high for a beer it is usually higher than the ship.

I think that if you frequent a particular bar and give good tips the drinks will be an ecellent value and you will have great service.

I Always ask for my drink in a regular glass. If you want the souvenir plastic cup (yes most are not even glass anymore) then just look around and pick one up. Most people don't realize that they paid for the glass and leave them around the ship to be picked up by the bar staff.

We have been to Vegas 17 times prior to our first cruise, that got old!!! Decided to try something different, a cruise, been hooked ever since! let me tell you Wisconsin is the "cheapest people in the 48" we typically pay $2.50 a bottle for beer maybe a little more in a fine resteraunt and I was shell shocked on my first RCL cruise, after comparing to my fellow employees that did a Carnival cruise trust me, RCL ia not out of line and probably quite reasonable in most parts of the U.S.
