laedw Posted July 25, 2011 #1 Share Posted July 25, 2011 We are flying in a day early for our Majesty of the Seas cruise. I use Priceline to make our hotel reservation when we fly into San Juan for our RCCL cruise. I am unfamiliar with Miami so I am relying on my fellow CC to give me some advice. We are looking for a resort hotel near or on the beach that is within walking distance of boutiques, Starbucks, etc. It would be nice if the hotel is in close proximity to the pier. Thanks. :)
cb at sea Posted July 25, 2011 #2 Share Posted July 25, 2011 We usually stay at the Intercontinental...right next to Bayside Marketplace, with shops and restaurants.....(don't know about Starbucks...can't stand their coffee!) and about 5 mins. from the port. Across the street is the Holiday Inn....a less expensive property. However, there's no beach there...just a marina and view of the port!
Gonzo70 Posted July 25, 2011 #3 Share Posted July 25, 2011 You might want to consider bidding on a South Beach area hotel via Priceline. Then you will have access to the beach and tons of shopping, restaurants and activities in walking distance. South Beach is not too far from the port; a fairly short and inexpensive cab ride will get you there. South Beach hotels tend to be a little pricey, but by using Priceline you should be able to receive a half way decent deal.
Marie51 Posted July 25, 2011 #4 Share Posted July 25, 2011 Hi....hotels near the port are not near the beach. If you want to stay near the port that would be the downtown area. There are several nice hotels there including the Intercontinental, Hyatt, Marriott, Hilton, Doubletree. If you would rather be at the beach it will be about a 15-20 minute taxi ride to the port. I have stayed at the Sagamore which is right on the beach and within walking distance to Lincoln Road mall where there are restaurants and shops. I know there are other hotels in that area too. Sorry, I don't know about Starbucks.
laedw Posted July 25, 2011 Author #5 Share Posted July 25, 2011 Thank you for the input. I looked at the rate for 1 night at the Intercontinental! I will definitely bid for a room via Priceline. You said that I should choose the South Beach area? I will also look at the Sagamore too. Thanks everybody.:D
JohninDC Posted July 25, 2011 #6 Share Posted July 25, 2011 Check www.betterbidding.com for more specific advice on hotels and bidding strategies. If it is beach, fine dining and nightlife you are looking for choose Miami Beach over downtown Miami. ;) Depending upon which hotel you wind up with a taxi from MIA to South Beach will run $32+ and another $15-20+tip will get you back to POM. If you go with a downtown Miami hotel a taxi to your hotel will run $25-27+tip and to get to the port the next morning will run $10-12. Good luck! :)

grossnmoe Posted July 26, 2011 #9 Share Posted July 26, 2011 Hello, I just booked the Intercontinental on last minute travel for $111.00 a night. It was marked as a five star hotel. I have never stayed there myself but, I hope it is ok.
dmwnc1959 Posted July 27, 2011 #10 Share Posted July 27, 2011 Hello, I just booked the Intercontinental on last minute travel for $111.00 a night. It was marked as a five star hotel. I have never stayed there myself but, I hope it is ok. I also just booked this same hotel for late November (using the same site) and have heard lots of good things. It's close to a CVS for supplies and not too far from Bayside. I found the Intercontinental's restaurant menu online and it's quite expensive for breakfast ($25pp buffet). Someone suggested walking down to the Holiday Inn for a less expensive buffet $(15).

Take a look at: The South Seas, Courtyard Marriott South Beach, Marriott South Beach, The Bently, and The Shelbourne. Tons of dining, shopping, and attractions within close walking distance. nhraformula00 Posted July 28, 2011 #12 Share Posted July 28, 2011 There is a Starbucks inside the I.C. hotel. Its one of the nicest hotels in downtown Miami. We always book through Lastmintravel and it is around 100$ low season. Not sure on high season.
