Orator Posted August 7, 2011 #2 Share Posted August 7, 2011 I've been on a Celebrity ship during the Super Bowl and I remember them showing the game on all TVs.
Rare cruisestitch Posted August 7, 2011 #3 Share Posted August 7, 2011 Generally it is shown on a big screen, possibly in the theater, or in the sky lounge or even both, plus has been available on the in-stateroom tv. They usually have snack foods during the game in the various venues as well.
PartyAllDaTyme Posted August 7, 2011 #4 Share Posted August 7, 2011 We were on Summit this February. They blew off the regular show in the Celebrity Theater and decorated it with green and gold balloons on one side, black and yellow balloons on the other, had ice sculptures with the Packers and Steelers logos, had a nice spread of food available-- everything from hamburgers, hot dogs and nachos to sliced roast beef and desserts. The only thing missing was bratwurst, which was an abomination in the eyes of St. Vincent of Lombardi. The game was projected on a theater-sized screen. They managed to get the Fox affiliate feed, the same satellite feed that's sent to the local stations, which meant we got to see the national commercials. Super Bowl Sunday was on what would have been the first formal night. I was told by a member of our roll call that we got them to change formal night to Monday to accommodate the Super Bowl fans. Lois R might have more information about that. It was a special Super Bowl to remember, and that's coming from a Packer fan!

Hi, no worries:D I sailed this year on Summit during the Superbowl and so did lots of Packers and Steelers fans;). They showed it on a GIANT SCREEN in the Celebrity Theater and in the casino too and on tv in your cabin. In the theater (it is the theater where the shows are) so it really was a giant screen...it took up the stage....they had a big buffet in there too:) and they had food in the casino as well. They also moved formal night...it would have been on Sunday but they changed it to Monday. I want to sail for the Supebowl again....it was a lot of fun:)

PartyAllDaTyme Posted August 7, 2011 #7 Share Posted August 7, 2011 Hi Lois!:) I knew you'd be chiming in on this one! I was never clear, maybe you know-- did the staff plan on moving formal night from the start, or was it as a result of input from our group? I seem to recall someone (maybe you) saying that "we got them to reschedule formal night," or some such. This might have an impact for the OP, since they might have to speak up. Hi Steve,:) it wasn't me. I think maybe the Hotel Director and Cruise Director might have been thinking about it before anyone said anything. I think there are cruises that sail Superbowl Sunday every year so they have got to know from previous experience many folks will not be in the dining room and having formal night on that evening really doesn't make much sense. Thornbird Posted August 7, 2011 #9 Share Posted August 7, 2011 For those of us who would avoid football of any stripe like the plague, and have no idea of the dates of the season, when is it scheduled? (Super bowl is football isn't it? Or is it baseball? Either way - I want to avoid it!)

(Super bowl is football isn't it? Or is it baseball? Either way - I want to avoid it!) The next Super Bowl is 5 February 2012 in Indianapolis, Indiana. So, if you are not a fan of American Football, avoid that date.

(Super bowl is football isn't it? Or is it baseball? Either way - I want to avoid it!) American Football is starting "unofficially" next weekend as it will be the first pre-season game. The 1st real Sunday game is on 9/11 this year and the Superbowl is on February 5th. And for those who ARE fans? It is a fabulous way to watch the game:D
Cruising Domer Posted August 7, 2011 #12 Share Posted August 7, 2011 The cruise director should be planning to show the Superbowl without any additional urging. Although it wasn't the Superbowl, I recently did a Panama Canal cruise aboard the Infinity over Thanksgiving and they had a larger lounge (if I remember correctly, it was the Constellation lounge) dedicated to broadcasting all of the Thanksgiving Day game. In the back, they also had some tailgating-type foods set up -- burgers, hot dogs, wings, chips, fries, etc. It was a nice setup to watch the games. Rare Lois R Posted August 7, 2011 #17 Share Posted August 7, 2011 My mistake. The morning coffee hadn't kicked in yet! :o Not a problem:).....it was alot of fun sailing on Superbowl Sunday though:D. I was not rooting for either team which made it a bit different for me. Oh the Casino had the "Squares Game" too and one of my tablemates won 700 bucks!...She picked the right numbers for the 4th quarter. It was pretty exciting:) I played too but did not win anything:(

Hi Steve,:) remember the Superbowl is quite Internationl now. Not like the World Cup of course, but still.....I am guessing cruises downunder and to South America would have them. As for Xpedition? I doubt it too.

jerseygirl3 Posted August 7, 2011 #22 Share Posted August 7, 2011 My husband just reliezed that we will be on board the Summit on SuperBowl Sunday thank God it is a sea day can anyone let us know what they do. It's a blast being onboard for Super Bowl Sunday! They will have numerous areas set up with TV's. We hung out at a large lounge on Infinity (can't remember the name) and they had a large screen TV set up near the stage, and smaller flat screen tv's set up in smaller areas around the lounge. We took over a corner area with one of the smaller TV's (our group had about 8-10) and it was so much fun. The cruiseline ran a "pool", which we won! They also had a long table set up with all the standard football munchies...nachos, burgers and hotdogs, hoagies, etc. They usually have the area decorated in the team's colors. I now try to book specifically for Super Bowl Sunday.

We had a great time on Summit, and I would not avoid booking a cruise during the Super Bowl, but I did miss my tradition of tailgating (in my driveway) for all Packer playoff appearances. At least, I would have had my brats. If I knew in advance that my favorite team would be in the Super Bowl, I'd skip the cruise, but 1) there's no way to know that without waiting until less than two weeks before the sail date to book, and 2) that's just me. BTW-- let's not talk too loudly about booking specifically for the Super Bowl, or Celebrity will jack up the prices for that week (if they don't already).:eek::D
