corky4man Posted August 15, 2011 #1 Share Posted August 15, 2011 We are staying precruise at the Embassy Suites, downtown Tampa and will need a place to eat dinner. What is available for a moderately priced family dinner?
SeaPA1 Posted August 15, 2011 #2 Share Posted August 15, 2011 Lots of options: In the Channelside entertainment complex, about 1/2 mile away: *Stumps Supper Club is good. "Southern" cooking - fried chicken, bbq, stuff like you'd find in an old South kitchen. *Thai Thani (Thai food) is very good *Food at Splitsville (the bowling alley) is surprisingly good; pizzas are excellent, sushi, burgers & sandwiches, but also have steak & other higher level foods *Precint Pizza is pretty good; NY style pizza, along with other basic Italian dishes *a greek restaurant (Taverna Opa) opened a few months ago; haven't eaten there yet but it smells good. *There's also a Hooters and a burger-type joint. They are, well, Hooters and a burger joint. Another couple of blocks down the Channelside, Zelda's Cafe has good food. Not much to look at from the outside, but staff is friendly & food good as to variety & quality. It's owned/run by a Jamaican guy who worked in the kitchens in the cruise industry for a long time. A bit of a long walk - might be better to take a cab or hop on the trolley (board right by your hotel, take it to the Port Authority stop; Zelda's is back about 1/4 block in the direction from which you came - shares a building with a BP gas station). Or you can ride the trolley to Ybor City, where there are a bunch of very good restaurants in various price ranges. Columbia is excellent (Spanish/Cuban cuisine), Acropolys (greek) excellent, Carmines (cuban/italian very, very good.
legion3 Posted August 15, 2011 #3 Share Posted August 15, 2011 ^^^^^^ Yep, what he said! Pretty decent stuff at Channelside I will add that the Tina Tapa's is excellent spanish food. The Columbia is hard to beat in Tampa and a city landmark!
