Parvatiiv Posted August 18, 2011 #2 Share Posted August 18, 2011 Which side of the ship is portside,,,right or left? Port is left. the easiest way to remember is in baseball, a left handed pitcher is a portsider.
dancing lady Posted August 18, 2011 #3 Share Posted August 18, 2011 Port is the left side of the ship. Port and left have the same number of letters! :D
Pia1913 Posted August 18, 2011 #4 Share Posted August 18, 2011 Port is the left side of the ship. Port and left have the same number of letters! :D Just think of them as FOUR letter words. And, other than port and left, cabins on the port side are EVEN numbered. Another four letter word.
Pam in CA Posted August 18, 2011 #5 Share Posted August 18, 2011 Which side of the ship is portside,,,right or left?In case you're asking which side of the ship will be facing the terminal and port, it all depends on the port, the berth and the number of ships in port that day. Sometimes, the ship docks with the port side of the ship facing the port, sometimes the starboard side is facing the port. This can sometimes change from one cruise to another. paul929207 Posted August 18, 2011 #6 Share Posted August 18, 2011 Port side is the left side when you are facing the front. It has nothing to do with where the city is.
sonnenschein Posted August 19, 2011 #7 Share Posted August 19, 2011 Portside=even cabin numbers (100) Starboard=uneven cabin numbers (101)
chipmaster Posted August 19, 2011 #8 Share Posted August 19, 2011 If you are trying to decide which cabin to book, even/odd, right/left, starboard/port just remember murphy will be there and the best thing on the cruise will most certainly be not on the side you have booked your cabin, or the worst thing will certainly be :D Which side of the ship is portside,,,right or left? LoriPhil Posted August 19, 2011 #10 Share Posted August 19, 2011 On the decks with cabins, port side hallways have carpet with red borders and starboard have blue.

boomerone Posted August 19, 2011 #12 Share Posted August 19, 2011 Any Navy veterans out there? Remember FUSPAD? Forward up starboard, port aft down. We'll never get the civilians to figure this out but wouldn't it be nice to have traffic flowing efficiently around the decks instead of playing bumper cars with other passengers and staff? Also, how about the flow on the promenade deck and the jogging track topside? Clockwise on even number days, counter-clockwise on odd number days. There always seems to be a few who enjoy going against the flow of the majority.

Of course I'll be glad to not have any "knee nockers" to deal with!! :D

I would suggest that you embrace going against the flow and rebel against those ingrained constraints. :D
