Two2Cruise Posted March 27, 2005 #1 Share Posted March 27, 2005 Hi All! Happy Easter! What is the best internet site to get a forecast a couple of weeks out? We are sailing on the Jewel on April 9th and I would love to get a "look ahead". THANKS! (We stop in St. Maarten, Antigua, St. Thomas as well as Nassau and San Juan)
jimbug Posted March 27, 2005 #2 Share Posted March 27, 2005 My DH is a meteorologist and they always say that any forecast over 3-4 days out is very much inaccurate. Why? Because forecasts that far out rely completely on computer models, which are often quite wrong. Anyway, the Weather Channel's website (http://www.weather.com) *does* give an extended forecast, but don't count on whatever it is. Case in point - I was set on using that website to get my wedding day forecast, even though my DH warned me against it - it went from sunny to cold to pouring rain to severe t-storms all within a week on that site! :-)
Privateer Posted March 27, 2005 #3 Share Posted March 27, 2005 Also try WWW.accuweather.com - the free services is good and the 3 -5 day models are fairly accurate (+70%).
t2georgia Posted March 28, 2005 #4 Share Posted March 28, 2005 Go to this link........find your upcoming location........and there you go!!! http://www.theweathernetwork.com/weather/cities/indexintl.htm Happy Cruising :)
sross6019 Posted March 28, 2005 #5 Share Posted March 28, 2005 I like http://www.wunderground.com. I find it more accurate than the weather channel and other national stations.
TrentS Posted March 28, 2005 #6 Share Posted March 28, 2005 I second http://www.wunderground.com, I always use that one and it not only seems to have a better forecast, but it's easier (for me anyway) to navigate.
Rare geoherb Posted March 28, 2005 #7 Share Posted March 28, 2005 The other thing to consider is that even if the forecast is for rain every day, most likely the rain will just be a quick shower. Extended rainy days aren't as common in the Caribbean as they are here on the East Coast.
TheWog Posted March 28, 2005 #8 Share Posted March 28, 2005 I second accuweather.com. They were pretty accurate long term for our January cruise.
glgolfer Posted March 29, 2005 #9 Share Posted March 29, 2005 Vote for http://www.wunderground.com - we have it as our home page. You can set favorite cities around the world to keep track of. We always put in cities where we will be on our next trip to see what the weather is/will be like. Also, this site is very interesting. Click on the public access and just look around. The one we check before our cruise is the wave heights around the world. https://www.fnmoc.navy.mil/
