maryann ns Posted September 14, 2011 #26 Share Posted September 14, 2011 The above link doesn't seem to work. Just do a search for Ron in Rome.
0493669935 Posted September 22, 2011 #27 Share Posted September 22, 2011 We have just returned from Solstice cruise that departed Sept 5th 2011 and used this express train. We made reservations on the following link:http://www.smartcruisetours.com You do not have reserved seats but there were plenty of seats available. The train leaves Civitavecchia at 09:30 (usually platform 5) and only stops at San Pietro - arriving at 10:05. The return train departs at 4:15pm. There was also an additional train (complete with curtains:)) that the cruise companies used that basically did the exact same thing. The cost was approx $25.00 and the reason we did this was the local trains have become extremley crowded on weekdays and when there are 3 very large cruise ships in port the station becomes overwhelmed - around 12,000 passengers in addition to regular commuters. We had 6 hours in Rome (7 is not enough either, even if you travel earlier) with the option of riding the HOHO bus right outside San Pietro for an additional fee. We spent a little more than the cost of the BIRG ticket but found this train more pleasant and certainly less crowded. Please note it does not run every day - you wil need to input your arrival date into the smartcruisetours website.
