ohiotim Posted August 29, 2011 #1 Share Posted August 29, 2011 I'm new to cruises' only went once but am wanting to go again.I have one concern I'm looking for help with. These cruises are for fun and relaxation for my wife and I but we are really disappointed by the fact everything on the ship exept the casino was closed by midnight, this may not be a big deal to most but my wife and I are 2nd and 3rd shift workers we are looking for a line that has things to do like bars or restaurants open later or 24-7 while at sea. Thanks in advance for any help with this . It's a fair question and you may not like my answer/opinion. A majority of cruisers are not late night party animals. We ourselves have been on more then 60 cruises (over 2 years on the ships) and always smile when Cruise Directors try to beg passengers to go to the late night disco, shows, etc. The reality is that after mid-night a majority of cruisers are in bed or getting ready for bed. You also need to consider that many bars and public rooms are over or under some passenger cabins which necessitates them being quiet late at night. Just about every ship has at least one venue (some have a lot more) that are in parts of the ship where the noise does not interfere with sleeping passengers..and this is where they normally have the late night activities. We have often dropped-in on the late night festivities (after mid-night) only to discover a handfull of passengers and perhaps a few cruise staff. We are not aware of any cruise ship that has a bar open 24 hrs a day (3 am is probably the latest you will find on most ships and most close earlier). I would also warn you that its gets a lot "worse" as you get older and expand your horizons to longer cruises (over 2 weeks) that tend to attract an older crowd. We have been on many cruises where there is virtually nobody awake after mid-night and even the casino is empty. For the kiind of late night life you are seeking you might want to plan a vacation to Las Vegas :) Hank
cb at sea Posted August 30, 2011 #3 Share Posted August 30, 2011 Most ships will keep something open if folks are out partying and having fun. If everyone is an "early to bed" sort, then they will shut things down! Your best bet is to make friends with your tablemates, and enlist their help in your party efforts! trish1c Posted August 30, 2011 #4 Share Posted August 30, 2011 NCL had some late night bar stuff. But I don't remember seeing any really organzied activities for the true night owls.
Wayfairers Posted August 30, 2011 #5 Share Posted August 30, 2011 Your best bets may be Carnival or Royal Caribbean. I am one of those normally in bed by midnight so I don't have first hand knowledge of what they may offer.
