Complaining about kids???

Why are there so many complaints about teenage kids when I have encountered cruises where adults between the ages of 20-25 do so many inappropriate things, it would make even their parents ashamed. But nobody says anything about people at that age. Why? Because alcohol is involved? Get real. I have never came across a child around the ages of some of these complaints to ruin my cruise one bit. Lets get over it people. It's annoying and you sound like you hate life and think about how ignorant you sound that a 12 yr old "ruined" your WEEK long vacation. Its just sad. I have a very well behaved 4 yr old that gets enrolled in the kids program so I definitely don't let her run around alone and don't plan on it, just to make that clear.

I can't say I have had "any kid or adult" ruin my any of my vacations. Although if I'm setting next to a family with a baby at dinner time and they don't leave when the child starts crying VERY loudly, I may say something to the waiter and let them deal with it. But it wouldn't ruin my trip.

I think those people that say kids ruined their trip had other things that ruined their trip also. Some people will have anything ruin a trip even not getting a table for two... So it depends on the person.

Yeah but thats just common courtesy. At least take the child out till it calms down or give it a bottle. Thats understandable. But yes, also no way that would ruin my cruise.

I've never had anyone ruin my cruise, but after reading some of these threads, that sound like Camp Run Amok, I can understand where that could impact your cruise.

If kids are throwing food and picking it up with their hands, then replacing it. Running amok in the halls and elevators at all hours of the day and night.

If their parents aren't capable of stopping it, then Carnival should be.

And the same goes for drunken 20-25 year olds. Just because they are old enough to drink, doesn't make drunken obnoxious behavior acceptable. They should be put off the ship.

But a cruiseline isn't going to do that and affect their bottom line.

Wow.......somebody need to get away:confused:

I miss the Southwest commercials. Especially the 'must be football season' ones of days gone by.

Back on topic and IMO - People more often will complain about the bad then complement the good. That is why it seems there are so many complaints. If everyone who had a good or even great time came on here and gave their two cents on their trip, then the "few" complaints like that of the "bad kids", would seem miniscule in comparison.

There are some people (not all) that are sensationalizing things. We only sail when the kids are out of school since we have school age kids. I've never seen things as bad as some of these people are saying. I don't believe half of it.

In all the cruises I've taken in my life I've never been affected by the kids but then I don't cruise when school is out. I think (I hope) most parents are responsible when it comes to watching over their kids but unfortunately some parents are entirely clueless. A unruly kid could do nothing to ruin my cruise. When I do run into the rare one who can't control himself/herself I just give them my evil eye. That normally takes care of the problem.

Ha ha - that's good one....and no that won't work.

Yes, you are right, You have never cruised during school breaks. It by far is the worst....and I have kids!

I honestly think that behind any misbehaved child there is at least 1 badly behaved adult. I have never had a cruise ruined by anyone else before and I have traveled with children in our parties of varying ages and maturity levels. I think the most drama actually comes from the badly behaved adults. I don't care if people are 4 or 24 or 64- they can make the environment pleasant or unpleasant. We have an upcoming cruise where an adult guest was so anti child (which is funny because she herself is a badly behaving adult) that we asked her nicely not to join us. Long story, but I would take a crying child over an obnoxious adult any day of the week :-)

Happy cruising and wishing courteous cruisemates to all of you!

Ok so school breaks. But its like, you know the risk. So accept it and HOPE you don't have any issues. But if you do then you cant say it "ruined" your cruise. Why?? Because you knew going into it when you booked that it was when kids were out of school. Hate to say it, but same thing about hurricane season (just throwing that in, off topic I know).

Very true!

I prefer hurricane season because of economic reasons and because the kids are back in school. And if my cruise gets impacted by a storm, no I will not say it ruined my cruise.

I can see how could be annoying for someone with lower tolerance. Also if that person worked for a year or two and saved every penny to have a nice relaxing vacation. We have been on 10 cruises so for and 9 out of 10 were during Summer break and I can think back at a couple of the cruises where I was like ok some parents need to control their kids. One of the years we ended up on a deck with about 75 to 100 teenagers celebrating multiple quinceanera's and for some reason the kids slept all day and up all night running the hallways, constantly knocking on peoples doors at 2-3 in the morning. You also get the usual (especially in the evening) every single button on the elevator was pressed (no big deal) absolutely no room in the Jacuzzi's due to teenagers hanging in the jacuzzi all day/evening long (again to us no big deal we usually go to the spa). We never allowed any number of kids to ruin our cruise, but like I stated earlier if someone worked their a$$ off to enjoy a nice relaxing vacation, I feel that they should be able to do so and some parents should try to control their kids out of respect for the other passengers and not see a cruise like a big opportunity to ditch the kids for 7 days (less/more) and not be responsible for the kids actions. (yes I know some will answer "if you want a relaxing vacation take Celebrity, Princess", etc. some people may only be able to afford Carnival)

Were you on my cruise?

This was by far my worst cruise ever! I believe it was my Paradise cruise. The teenagers were making out and having sex in any available corner/nook of the ship they could find. The parents let them get drunk and they would constantly yell at all hours of the night.

Yes we did see a few drunk teenagers, having sex yes we seen that to and a few of them brought hookah's on board and they were smoking everywhere (was surprised security did not enforce the smoking rules)

No it was not Paradise but it does sound like we had the same experience, we where on Pride.

True story... on our last sea day last week, on the serenity deck, there was an older guy who started picking on a 17 year old in the hot tub (she supposedly was turning 18 the next day), and it escalated to him using the N word repeatedly at her. Some birthday cruise for her. Now, I have an issue with KIDS causing mayhem in ANY hot tub, but I certainly don't have an issue with a 17 year old hanging out with her aunt and other family in the hot tub. Just sitting there.

This guy bumped into them again a few hours later and started all over again. I'd rather deal with kids having fun than a racist bigoted old man who thinks that he is some kind of authority figure.

I have every right to enjoy my time on vacation. I dont want or need some screaming brat sitting next to me at dinner. I dont want or need kids running up and down the halls making all kinds of noise at any time during my vacation!! It is in no way Carnivals fault. Its the parents. But one thing I think Carnival should do is set a curfew for every child under 18 at 11pm. If they are caught they should be escorted to their room. Sounds to me like Carnival needs to hire more security. Ill tell you what. For all the people complaining about the kids you dont want to go to Disney World. Talk about some kids parents that need to be smacked! Wow!!!! Just because your on vacation doesnt give you the right not to watch your children!!!!!!!!!!!!! It doesnt matter how old they are. They all need supervision!!!!!!!! One last thing. If Im not getting sleep Im not a nice person and I WILL take care of the problem if you dont! Lets just say I wasnt very well liked at the All Star Sports at Disney! And you know what, I dont care. Take care of your kids and we wont have a problem. End of story.

Very much agree. Why not handle the problem yourself?? If its something as simple as kids running down the hallway, what kids have the balls to continue to do it after you stop them in the hall and give them a good talking to as you would your own child. As far as a curfew idea. I don't think that would be something that can be done. Sounds good, but doubt Carnival would go for it. Maybe just cameras in the hallways and a security team for each floor? But then we are talking about more money for more staff and security cameras may look kinda tacky.

But why does one have to scold someone else's children for bad behavior?

The parents should have instilled better values in their children that they would never think to disturb people while they are sleeping?

Some of those parents may not even know what those values are. So how on earth are they going to install them on their children.
