Just wondering how things turned out with the noro and entering NZ?

Maybe no news is good news!!! :) ;)

I was wondering what happened to "OscartheGrouch's sis" ? I think that was her name? I tried a member search...but we haven't heard from her since her solo Alaska cruise on Radiance.

If you're still reading...did you have a good time? Anyone?

She hasn't ever posted again since she had her feelings hurt. At that time she explained about her fibromyalgia. So maybe she isn't coming back because she feels bad - either from her illness or her feelings. :(

She must have been on the cruise right before us.

G'day, mates--

Gina, thanks for the links to the wonderful pictures of Radiance in Sydney.

From reports from friends who were on board the Noro was pretty much under control by the time they got to Auckland so no problems with immigration or health authorities. About 40 couples, randomly chosen, did have to present themselves for face to face inspection on arrival. Patti and Jim were among them.

While in Auckland they had to move the ship from the downtown dock because the fuel barge that would normally be used was up at the site of an oil spill. RCI provided shuttle busses from the new location to the downtown area.

Arrival into Sydney was early (5:00AM) so most people didn't see the approach or the view until they woke up and found the Opera House outside!

One couple we know was off the ship by 7:00AM and in their hotel room by about 9:30AM to drop their bags and hit the pavement.

Oh, how we wish we were there with them!

BTW, the infection is pretty much healed and I'm going back to physical therapy for the knee problem. My "sternly worded letter" is just about ready to go to RCI.

Thanks for a great report Frank. I can only imagine waking up to see the opera house....I bet there were a few that were up and out there to watch it come in. :) (not that I would ever be up THAT early!)

Glad your doing better!

Gina and Bill--

What program do you use to track a ship? I've been using the site that has sea and scanner in its name and found it was off by quite a bit on the arrival of Radiance into Sydney. It was showing 7:00AM (Which was scheduled time) and the actual was 5:00AM. The map was off, too.

Yes that site is delayed. I use the paid version of Shipfinder by pinkfroot. Yes there is an f between pink and root. You'll know it when you look it up. The ship has turned off it's signal now so it won't be found again until soon after departure. When the ship is in Alaska it turns the signal off as soon as it leaves the inside passage. But it's always on in Canada.

I got the paid version when we were in Victoria last May. It is real time. We could watch ships coming in and out and ID them all with the app. It was fun to watch TD in real time as she came in to Victoria for her dry dock. We knew when to hop on the bus to get over there in time for her to pull in.

It's an amusing app. Unfortunately not all ports or ships are visible at all times for various reasons. Most likely security I would guess.

I use the iPhone version. It's available for androids. It's very expensive on line for a computer subscription at shipfinder.com.

You may be able to register for free live use at pinkfroot.com I've never signed up there since I just use my phone.

I'm so sorry you guys had to leave the cruiise early.

I'm a little concerned about your report of infection at the acupuncture needle site.

I'm glad they were able to clear it up with antibiotics, it could have been much worse. It just sort of confirms my doubts about spa treaters. Things that should probably be left to actual professionals. Not just on Radiance, but on any of the ships. Thanks for posting about it. And I'm sorry that you missed the rest of the voyage.

~Patti :)

I have to agree. Frank, you took the news very well. I immediately thought that something must have gone wrong with the acupuncture. Ick. I'd be a lot less likely to have the spa do anything more intrusive than a massage. No facial extractions, thank you.

Best of luck to you.

Can any one please tell me how to make an official complaint to Royal about this cruise? and who would be the best person to write to it was the over the top 15th to 31st October.

Thanks Jacquie

Is that "over the top" a good thing or a bad thing? What happened? I believe there is an email for post cruise comments. But I would have to look it up.

In a bad way three and a half hours waiting to get off at Airlie beach then and hour and a half to get back on leaving us with an hour on shore, no seating or drinks, if it had been a really hot day like it some times can be they would have had people fainting in line.

In Port Douglas it took us five hours to get off the ship and in Geraldton three hours they just havnt done there home work for this trip lots of unhappy passengers

Hi guys,

As a travel agent, I was fortunate to be part of a four hour tour onboard Radiance Of The Seas yesterday, while docked at Port Melbourne.

She is an amazing ship, the centrum is beautiful, can't wait to cruise her!

This link is for my original post on the RCI boards, with a link to my photo album.
