flash flood BENIDORM NEW REPORT SORRY TO ALL

Recommended Posts

The elderly pair, thought to be in their 70s, were powerless to react as a wall of water hit them after torrential rain caused a river to burst its banks at around midday yesterday.

The water was channelled through a dried-up ravine and deluged market traders who had set up their stands in the centre of the town.

The town, just a few miles from popular resort Benidorm, was a scene of carnage as cars and stalls were wrecked.

The bodies of the couple were said to have been found under a trailer after the waters subsided.

Two other people were taken to hospital.

It has emerged the town's councils had already been fined 83,000 euros for paving the ravine bed without permission last summer, while the authority was also discouraged from allowing vendors to set up stores on the promenade.

A spokesman from the Foreign Office said: 'We are aware of the death of two British nationals in Finestrat, Spain, on October 21.

really sad this, finnestrat has had quite a lot of development in the last few years and they do not respect the need for these channels they build gardens in them and make features of them. they are there for a reason. We were about an hour or so south of benidorm on friday in torrevieja and went out in the car and headed south towards la manga because the storm clouds to the north were quite bad and we had a thunderstorm at 5am that morning but didnt expect to hear this sad news and we have spent a great deal of time in benidorm over the last few years. Deepest sympathy for their family.
