OCruisers Posted October 24, 2011 #1 Share Posted October 24, 2011 Just how dressed are most men for Formal Nights on Oasis/Allure? Your help would be appreciated since we'll be packing soon! :D
FOXTROT Posted October 24, 2011 #2 Share Posted October 24, 2011 With the airlines weight restrictions now in effect, most men wear suits or sport coats. There are still men wearing tuxes. I used to wear a tux. But with the extra shoes & all I now wear a sport coat.
Angel2010 Posted October 24, 2011 #3 Share Posted October 24, 2011 We will be on the Oasis this Saturday. My husband and boys will be in tuxs one night and suits the other night. Can't wait!

SoccerMom#3 Posted October 24, 2011 #5 Share Posted October 24, 2011 Mostly suits and ties but some just dockers and a collared shirt. 2nd formal night I saw jeans and even shorts-ugh. Fortunately that was just a few people. Definitely everyone is not as formal as even 5 years ago.
Canusa02 Posted October 24, 2011 #6 Share Posted October 24, 2011 Wow, I can't believe that no one has falsely identified the cruise line as a host yet. The requested dress code for men (for formal nights) is tux, suit, or sports jacket, tie, & slacks. I utilize 20% of my suitcase weight allowance for formal wear, only because I like to wear it. I have no issue with anyone else wearing whatever is acceptable in most land based restaurants or church buildings nowadays (no hats). Enjoy your cruise. Not to get into a dress debate here - been there, done that, over it..... :p;):D. However, I do have to take issue with the "falsely identified the cruise as a host". Actually "host" IS an appropriate identifier according to the American Heritage Dictionary: host1 (hst) KEY NOUN: One who receives or entertains guests in a social or official capacity. A person who manages an inn or hotel.<LI _yuid="yui_3_1_1_4_131945941178969">One that furnishes facilities and resources for a function or event: the city chosen as host for the Olympic Games. The emcee or interviewer on a radio or television program. Biology The animal or plant on which or in which another organism lives. Medicine The recipient of a transplanted tissue or organ. Computer Science A computer containing data or programs that another computer can access by means of a network or modem. Just thought I would point that out for future reference........ :D
ncbamafan Posted October 24, 2011 #8 Share Posted October 24, 2011 I take one suit, one sportscoat and ties to match. That seems to blend in well with the rest of the crowd on formal nights.

MikeNJ1109 Posted October 24, 2011 #10 Share Posted October 24, 2011 My wife and I have been on 7 previous cruises ... the first two (Explorer / 2000, and Brilliance / 2002), we did the formal thing, dressed to the 9's. Lately, we've brought "nicer" outfits to avoid "the stare" (yes, we all know what "the stare" is) ... for me - sport coat / button down shirt / Dockers, for my wife - nice pant suit / blouse. We get dressed up too much for work and ocassions during our normal lives, and our vacations are to unwind and relax. At the same time, God forbid we happen to offend anbody's sensibilities, as such we would never go to the MDR in shorts & a T-shirt for dinner. As such, what we do now seems to work well, and have never run into issues with our fellow on-board guests. Michael

Langley Cruisers Posted October 24, 2011 #13 Share Posted October 24, 2011 Has anyone been asked to leave the DR on formal night due to the fact they were not wearing a jacket? No, this would never happen. Many men remove their jacket during dinner and hang it on their chair, anyway. OP, I would say MOST men will be wearing a suit or sport coat, but you will see other forms of dress on FN. That's probably the most accurate way to put it, IMO. goouchjac Posted October 24, 2011 #14 Share Posted October 24, 2011 The dress code has become a matter of many different opinions...We used to bring alot of clothes,,,fancy,,dressy,,,and suits and etc....Since we have been cruising for many cruises,,the wardrobes have become more casual,,we don't have to fly to the ports in Fla.(live in Fla.) so that is not a issue. Just not into dressing up anymore,,but alot of people do,, it's whatever you want:D:D.. enjoy your cruise....

adomek Posted October 24, 2011 #16 Share Posted October 24, 2011 My husband rents a tux from the ship. It saves me from having to pack his suit so it's a win for me too. Plus he looks great in a tux ;)
kay995 Posted October 24, 2011 #17 Share Posted October 24, 2011 My husband and I are both nurses, so we never dress up for work! We like to dress up for the two formal nights on cruises! Tom rents a tux so as to not have to carry in the luggage! Much easier and he looks so good. I bring formal short dresses..... Kay and Tom
HMH G Posted October 24, 2011 #18 Share Posted October 24, 2011 Honestly I saw a lot of guys in khakis or black slacks and a collared or button up shirt. It would have been fun to dress up more, but we quickly ran out of room in the luggage. Hubby wore black slacks, a collared polo (tucked in) and dress shoes and all was just fine. Saw a few guys there in shorts! : o
LarryL Posted October 24, 2011 #19 Share Posted October 24, 2011 Regardless of the ship, I wear a tux. The exception being this TA where we have three formal nights and DW only has two formal dresses and no time to shop for a third. One of those nights I will wear a suit and she something less formal, but respectful of the occasion. On a side note, I always get a chuckle out of those who say they don't pack a tux because of "weight restrictions" and then say they bring a suit instead. My suit weighs more than my tux. :) Not a commentary on those on this thread. The mix and match allows other combinations during the cruise and extra shoes can also be an issue. I agree, though, that space is an issue. We pack a third, formal wear, suitcase although we pay extra for the airline baggage fees. It's still cheaper than renting from the ship. OCruisers Posted October 24, 2011 Author #22 Share Posted October 24, 2011 After 40 cruises, the OP is fully aware of what to wear for formal night. :D True ... but we've never been on Oasis/Allure so I've been reading every review on them that I can find. Some have mentioned quite a few on Oasis/Allure don't really "dress" for formal nights. People everywhere are lots more casual than they once were. Help from all has been appreciated. DH has a tux (actually three ... depending on his size at the time ;) ) and we drive so taking a tux is not the problem. Maybe being less dressed would be nice for a change. He's considering wearing a navy sports coat, white golf shirt, and dress pants. Any thoughts on that?
setsail Posted October 24, 2011 #23 Share Posted October 24, 2011 :D He's considering wearing a navy sports coat, white golf shirt, and dress pants. Any thoughts on that? That will do just fine for ANY RCI ship.:)
reallyitsmema Posted October 24, 2011 #24 Share Posted October 24, 2011 He's considering wearing a navy sports coat, white golf shirt, and dress pants. Any thoughts on that? I would consider that smart casual but you will see people dressed similarly on formal night too. My DH wears a suit if we go to formal night. We usually go to a specialty restaurant on formal night now so he dresses smart casual since that is the suggested attire.
Upandadam Posted October 24, 2011 #25 Share Posted October 24, 2011 Will be wearing my uncomfortable and way too hot tux on one formal night just to make the DW happy. Other formal night will probably just do the sportcoat with no tie. Sorry, just too uncomfortable to wear a tux or a tie two nights.
