Going to do this every friday until a few weeks before the cruise! I shouldn't have any trouble taking several of them on and having them added as OBC right??

Yep- I have always taken several-- and my upcoming cruise I have at least 16 certificates already

To save a litlle hassle, you can also call the Carnival Funship Dollar reps, buy them & have them immediately applied as OBC. You can also buy them online, using your Booking Number and 'ON BOARD CREDIT' in the two Address fields. From their website:

You can reach our Special Programs and Promotions department by telephone; toll free, at 1-800-906-7603 during the following hours:

Monday - Saturday 8:00am - 8:30pm, Eastern Time

Phone orders are accepted up to one week prior to sailing.

If I call and buy them as OBC where would I go online to see how much I have? Is this possible? I'd love to have a "stash" of OBC before I go..

It takes 7-10 to show up, but if you go to "my billing" in cruise manager, they will show up there. I always received an email the day i bought them confirming my purchase, then a few days later (or 7 days) I would get a second email stating it is being applied and sure enough the next day it shows up!

As another posters stated, you can go online to carnival website and purchase them right there and instead of having certificates mailed to you and waiting in line at guest services on the ship to be put on your acct, just type in the first address line "ONBOARD CREDIT" then pass over address line 2, complete city, st and zip as normal..you will have to enter booking # and sailing date, then credit card you are using. Hope that makes sense!

After you purchase them how/when do you recieve them ?

for a cruise in 12 days-- you call and have it applied to your account.

For cruises like mine-- I accumulate a 25.00 funship dollar every other week for 18 months.

I have them mailed to me

Can you help me understand the benefit of Funship Dollars. Is it a budgeting tool you use leading up to your cruise? Other than using them as a gift, I can't see any other purpose. Am I missing something?

Thanks,

Tim

So you buy these say $25 for 25 dollars worth of FunShip dollars, and then you apply them to you OBC? Is this sort of like saving up $25 a week and not worrying about spending the money before you get to the cruise?

Yes and yes. :D

well- when you have 400+ days to cruise its my fun way of saving for our onboard budget--which includes the casino. and its my count down clock.

Having them mailed to me takes 7 days-- so every other week I am buying a certificate and every other week I am waiting for one to be delivered.

For me to call and have them applied takes the fun out of receiving them= and it also is way too much paper work to keep up with just in case one gets misplaced

Up until this past week I had thought, "Why buy FDs when all you have to do is put the cash away?" Well, I found out my darling, dear, (D$@&) husband has been pilfering my coffee can!!!!! :p Well, I'm not saying I will buy any FDs but I do see a benefit now...... and I have found a diffent spot to hide my cruise/mad/casino stash.... ;)

Exactly. I purchased some in the months prior to my last cruise and walked on the ship with $250 in OBC. I only went over by $13. It's a good feeling to have everything paid for in advance and you don't have to worry about being billed at the end of your cruise.

Thanks for the replies, everyone. We had used them as a gift for some honeymooners, but couldn't understand the benefit beyond something like that. I understand better now. :)

thanks for the tip! I am going to start doing this right away! I like the idea of having a "stash" as an OBC.

I am impatiently waiting and hoping to see my funship $$'s applied to our account. I think it would be GREAT if Carnival would make adding pre-payments easier... I mean if I am going to spend the $$ on their ship... AND give it to them to hold for me before I even go... dontcha think it *should* be easier to do? It has been 12 days and still nothing on there. It is odd that they take the deposit $$ right away, and any "regular" payments right away... so why the hold up for pre-cruise stuff? hmmm. I guess I am just too impatient... I WANNA *see* it on my account :) :)

Same here. The email I received states:

"Your order will be applied as On-board Credit.

The credit will be applied approximately 2 weeks prior to sailing."

The credit does not appear online or on my documents and I'd hate to have to track them until August...
