Boddington's, Green King IPA and Marston Pedigree

I have just read the CC "review" of QE. Being a bit of a beer snob myself, I was interested to see what beers are sold on her. Unfortunately - the same old ones as are served on all the P&O UK ships. They are OK - but considering the quality of ales that the UK produces, they are a bit uninspiring. :( I guess I will find the same on QV and QM2?? I think I can recall having a draught Boddingtons on QM2 - I guess it would be too much to expect a cruiseship to have the trained staff required to serve proper ales and I can understand that. Obviously Carnival UK has a "deal" with these breweries.

I suspect that may be as much of a problem as anything else. I'm no expert, but surely a cellar that's constantly in motion is not the ideal place to store ale/beer/whatever.

That is true , -- but those beers I refer to are all bottled ales. There are much better bottle conditioned ales available in the UK than them. Re the Boddingtons - it is basically a keg draught that doesn't need much attention - but once again, much better keg beers available. As you say - we couldn't really expect "Real ales" on a ship.

I recall reading some years ago that someone had tried to develop a system which would allow real beer to be available on ships. A system of gimbals and gyros was used to try and keep it still and I believe that some sea trials were carried out but the experiment failed.

 

Never mind, I guess that we can survive on Keg and bottled beer for a few days!
