Aplmac Posted December 19, 2011 #26 Share Posted December 19, 2011 And they're WORTH it. ;) Of course they are! That's why they exist and do well. But for those who can afford, or who want to afford 'only' Carnival they shouldn't expect Seabourn levels of service and perks. Champagne taste but Beer money -the usual. :) Those who are realistic pay Beer money and expect only Beer to be served! .
niagaracris Posted December 19, 2011 #27 Share Posted December 19, 2011 Don't Drink....one of the reasons why we choose cruising over all inclusive. Everything that is important to us is already included. The "Extras" like "Steakhouse restaurants" are totally worth the little amount they do charge. Cruising for us is not cheap (compared to all inclusives). $3100 for 4 "March Break", Tips $540, Flight $1400. Total = $5000ish before excursions, hotel before cruise etc, etc. We have done many all inclusives over the years, but Love our cruise experience! So over all...is soooooooooo worth it!!!! Happy Holidays!
zqvol Posted December 19, 2011 #28 Share Posted December 19, 2011 And they're WORTH it. ;) Yes they are and I board one of them on Friday for a week! (and yes I still cruise Carnival or NCL once or twice a year too.)
Enryon Posted December 19, 2011 #29 Share Posted December 19, 2011 Overall, I believe it would be a bad idea. Fact is not everybody spends 7 straight days hammered. A sizable population on any given cruise does not drink at all. It would be a bit silly to ask them to pay for your drinks. On the other hand, I do believe it is a wonderful idea for the line to offer a Beer/Wine, DoD, or wells card. The best bet is a beer/wine card since Bud Light and Beringer are dirt cheap at wholesale. $50 per person per day would allow them to rake it in and keep the drinkers happy and hammered. Though That is assuming that every buyer is not pounding down 25 to 30 beers a day. (Note: if you are drinking that much, your liver will need a vacation once the cruise is over. )
kroozers Posted December 19, 2011 #30 Share Posted December 19, 2011 I go to AI resorts once a year or so and it is nice not to get the bar bill at the end of the week. I'd pay $50 per day for a beer only package happily. Having said that...It'll never happen on Carnival and I'm fine with that. Things are fine the way they are - and that's the way Carnival feels about it too.
bzpilot Posted December 19, 2011 #31 Share Posted December 19, 2011 ---never found anything in writing from Carnival, but this is what has been posted here before--- Carnival does offer it but it is only for groups (booking together) and EVERYONE (pregnant women excluded) in the group must participate. Takes a minimum of 30 people to participate. Everyone in the cabin of someone participating must participate, minors must get "Bottomless Bubbles" unlimited soda program. It's priced at $55/day for entire cruise and I'm not sure if that is includes the standard 15% tipping/service fees.

Aplmac Posted December 19, 2011 #33 Share Posted December 19, 2011 Overall, I believe it would be a bad idea. Fact is not everybody spends 7 straight days hammered. ===> Very few, in fact! A sizable population on any given cruise does not drink at all. (Note: if you are drinking that much, your liver will need a vacation once the cruise is over. ) Overall, it's a big illusion that cruises are full of drunks and  Wild Drinking. Amazing how the comparatively-few negative Spring Break cruise experiences can color the reputation, or should I say perception? of a cruise line. Maybe it's just me and I've been lucky to go on mostly-quite-civilized cruises. Long may that continue. I can't recall anyone being properly drunk on any cruises I've been on. I can't even remember anyone a bit tipsy. Boring! .
77Network Posted December 19, 2011 #34 Share Posted December 19, 2011 This is my question how much more would you be willing to pay for to make cruise lines a bit more All-Inclisive ? If so would that cover only the soft drinks,Alcohol or alternative dining ? regards Eric You asked this on the following boards: Carnival, HAL, RCI, NCL, Celebrity and Princess. Seeing as the question is not specific to any cruise line, I suggest you post it just once on the general discussion board. .

truchattycathy Posted December 19, 2011 #40 Share Posted December 19, 2011 Op, to answer your question, w/o all of my personal opinions, because that is not what you asked for..... I would gladly pay $100 extra per cruise for unlimited alcohol and $150 if it included umlimited access to the reservation only restaurants. I am not a big drinker, but I do drink and as cheap as I am, I would pay those amounts. :D
DaDivaMom Posted December 19, 2011 #41 Share Posted December 19, 2011 We purchased a package on Costa and I think we paid an extra 200 per person for soda, juice, beer, water and wine. It was great.
LibraByTheSea Posted December 19, 2011 #42 Share Posted December 19, 2011 Besides who would want to cruise with a ship full of drunks? Why would that be the impression of including your cocktails??? I recently sailed the Celebrity Millenium and puchased the Premium Drink Package which added $310 to my 5 day cruise, roughly $62 per day. Did I drink "more" or "better" since I bought the package?....Heck Yes! Did I get drunk and stupid?...Heck No! I began each day at the Cova Cafe with my morning Cappacino or 2... which is extra on Celebrity $8.00 Followed by a Specialty Coffee or Mimosa $8.00 Lunch a Sea Breeze or Bloody Mary (top shelf) $10.00 - Frozen Drinks by the Pool 2-3 (Silver Patron Margaritas) $25.00 NAP TIME A couple Martinis Before Dinner $20.00 Wine with Dinner $20.00 San Pellegrino with Dinner $6.00 Cocktails and Ectertainment $20.00 2 - 3 Bottles of water and a Viatmin Water $12.00 Prices listed are before Gratuity $129 x 15% = $148.35 vs $62 Pkg Cost Since so many folks don't enjoy the "Drinking" part of the cruise...I think Celebrity does it right...lets you purchase the Pkg or not. I AM ALL FOR IT!!!! ;) All Inclusive Cruising is AWESOME
cruzinlisa Posted December 19, 2011 #43 Share Posted December 19, 2011 I might pay a little extra, but not $100 per day for DH and I. DH might drink $50 worth, but I know I wouldn't (and he wouldn't drink $100 worth himself). I am more of the type that might have 2-3 well drinks in a day, max. When we have went to AIs, I felt like we were drinking way more than I really care to, because its there and because of getting our money's worth. Of course neither of us got drunk, probably because there was little alcohol in the drinks. But it was literally like oh there is a bar, lets go ahead and get a drink. Maybe $25 pp per day, max. Champagne taste but Beer money -the usual.:) Those who are realistic pay Beer money and expect only Beer to be served! . These kind of ppl annoy me. I wouldn't want Carnival to be an AI. The drinks would be watered down, and not top shelf brands. Then, I can see some of the clientele Carnival attracts trying to order Grey Goose or Johnny Walker Black.. knowing full well they don't buy that at home! To the OP, I tend to like AI's so if there were an upgrade I would probably buy it for just for the convenience. How much on Carnival would depend on what was being offered. but where would the AI end? unlimited Top shelf alcoholic drinks unlimited soft drinks 1 portrait 1 specialty dining reservation 1 50 min massage choice of one excursion in each port up to $$ amount? choice of one salon service up to $$ amount? choice of wine at dinner? The options are endless.
