Snorkel at Chankanaab - PrePay?

Guthrie

Recommended Posts

Hello everyone.

We will be in Cozumel next week and we are planning to spend the day at Chankanaab.

I'd like to snorkel there (my first time).

After looking at "Welcome To Cozumel Parks" site, it says "Details and Recommendations.- Snorkel Gear Rental USD $ 13 * Special online pre-paid price only when booking with us."

Does this mean I need to Pre-Pay before I go, in order to snorkel for $13.00. Or is that the everyday price and I can just pay that when I get there?

Thanks for any info.

You don't have to prepay to get into Chankanaab. You can grab a cab there and pay the admission fee of $21. It's a national park. You can find a $2 off coupon online.

You don't pay to "snorkel". Admission is just to get into the park which includes a HUGE beautiful beach, a smaller cove type beach, a beautiful lagoon with iguanas walking around, a self-guided tour to the mayan ruins replicas, pool, restaurants, shopping, sea lion show, and if you are interested, you can do the dolphin or manatee swims.

You can rent the snorkeling vest for FREE at the first shack you come to. You just have to give them your license to hold while you have the jacket. No problems.

If you need to rent snorkeling gear, the next shack down will have that for rent for a flat fee price for the day. Or you can bring your own.

If you are interested in my review I did a few months ago (with a link at the end with tons of pictures of the place)...here it is: http://boards.cruisecritic.com/showpost.php?p=30683350&postcount=59

Thank you Mitsugirly for the info.

I was under the impression that the snorkel gear was for rent daily, but then read something online that made me think that I might get a better deal if I "pre-payed".

I read your review a few weeks ago while searching the Coz forums here. I appreciate you posting it for us. Reviews sure help us in making some tough decisions for our time on the islands.

Your pictures were awesome!

Again, thank you!

I have searched and don't see anyone offering a booking just to get into the park. I may be wrong. I tried checking the site that I used for the swim and I know they don't offer tickets to just the park prior to coming.

It is a better deal if you pre-pay prior to going if you are doing any of the swims with the dolphins or manatees though. You can save some $$ that way and that's what we did.

At this point, we dont plan on doing much at Chankanaab other than letting the ladies lay around on the beach and the guys snorkel around the area there.

I read that they have "shows" there.

Sea lion show

Dolphin presentation

Manatee Exhibit

Are these things just there on the beach, that's included with the $21, or is this something different?

Yes, it is included with admission to the park. The dolphin discovery is within the park, but as you first go in. To get to the beach, you go to the left. So it's right next door to each other within the same park.

When you walk in there are buildings on each side for shopping and the dolphin place is straight ahead basically (in front of the pool and where you view the pictures store). You will walk to the left to get to the cove pool part first, then keep going to get to the snorkeling area. The lagoon is right behind the snorkeling and beach.
