Royal Caribbean Radiance Alaska Cruisetour

We are considering the RC Radiance Alaska cruise. We are interested in hearing from folks who booked land excursions on their own...either prior to the cruise or while cruising.

We are especially interested in Denali.

Any input would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you.

Hi,

Full details of the best 2 weeks EVER in my sig below.

I don't know whether you gain anything by booking the Denali tour on your own. Certainly the RCCL one was excellent and timed specifically for our needs. Brilliant commentary. Perfect day.

Very briefly:

Booked Husky Homestead with RCCL when we were on the land tour. Well worth the time and expense.

Skagway : highly recommend Beyond Skagway Tours. Becky is amazing. She used to work with Dyea Dave.Tell her Linda in the UK says hi.

Ketchikan : we booked with Island Wings. Again can't recommend highly enough

Juneau : helicopter excursion cancelled due to poor weather. We took the local bus up to the glacier

Icy Strait Point : F.I.S.H.E.S wonderful and exciting boat trip

Ditto to everything NN said - FANTASTIC 2 weeks in Alaska for us in 2010.

You should also refer your question to the folks on the Alaska forum as they will have PLENTY of suggestions for private bookings.

If you're doing the CruiseTour, there were few opportunities to book anything on your own, as you don't really know your time schedule until you get there. We did book a private Segway tour in Anchorage that DS14 and I had a great time on. You have more opportunities for private tours during the cruise portion, and we did a 50/50 mix of private and RCCL tours.

We did CruiseTour Package #1, which at the time included:

Fairbanks - Discovery sternwheeler river tour

Denali - Tundra Wilderness Tour with RCCL

Anchorage - not much, so we did the Segway tour with SegTours of Anchorage

Seward - SeaLife Center

Then on the cruise segment we did:

Juneau - Helicopter glacier dogsled through RCCL - they used ERA tours, who were still flying even when the others weren't

Skagway - private train/bus tour with Chilkoot - fantastic company and guide

Ketchikan - totem park through RCCL

Icy Strait Point - private whale watch with F.I.S.H.E.S. - great time!

Hi! If you're doing a cruise only, you will not see Denali, unless you go on your own before or after your cruise. If you'd like to be part of a land tour with other cruise passengers, you will have to do what is called a cruise tour. You may not have time to do an independent excursion on the land tour.

If you're interested in a cruisetour that goes deeper into Denali, consider this one as it goes 60 miles in versus the typical 45 miles and includes all the must-sees http://www.alaskacruiseexperts.com/cl_20.asp

Info on doing Denali on your own http://www.alaskanet.com/Tourism/parks/Denali/index.html

On the cruise portion, it depends on what you want to do.

Juneau - whale watching, flightseeing (helicopter ride over glaciers and even walk on one!), or pan for gold

Skagway - river float tour, city tour

Icy Strait - whale watching, city tour

Ketchikan - kayaking, hiking, backcountry jeep, beer viewing, Native village tour
