Comeoncruisin Posted January 5, 2012 #1 Share Posted January 5, 2012 What Excursions do you recommend in Grenada? Has anyone gone on either of these excursions - Spice Garden, Westerhall Estates & Rum Tasting or Spice Estate, Grand Etang Park & Annandale Falls Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks Ruth
GloriaF Posted January 5, 2012 #2 Share Posted January 5, 2012 We did a private tour spice excursion. Have you checked the Ports of Call board for Grenada? If not, that would be my suggestion. While I haven't read the POC boards recently, that is where I have always found reliable info on private tour operators. The advantage to a private tour is that they usually combine what you would see in several individual ship excursions but cost about half the cost of one ship excursion. Of course, the disadvantage is that if you are late back to the ship, you're out of luck about the ship waiting for you. Still, with good recommendations from the POC board, we've taken plenty of private tours and never come close to being late.

greenscooter Posted April 12, 2012 #7 Share Posted April 12, 2012 All passengers exit through the Esplanade Mall area in Grenada. There are LOTS of tour operators available that will offer their services for $30pp. (some even less) and take you around the island. We visited Annadale Falls (pretty but not a must see), Grand Etang forest/lake (nice), a spice plantation, seen the monkeys & got our photo taken for $5, saw where the Grenada invasion took place, and went to some lookout and got some great photos looking down on the island. They offer to take you anywhere else you want to go; but, our group opted out since it had rained the entire day. Pretty good deal for only $30. tvlbum Posted April 23, 2012 #9 Share Posted April 23, 2012 We visited Grenada, Wednesday, February 15, 2012 on the Caribbean Princess 7 am - 2pm. My husband and I had been to Grenada before and wanted to do something besides the average cruise ship tour. After surfing the Internet I contacted Chris Buckmire at Chris Taxi and Tours http://www.grenadaexplorer.com/chris or christours@hotmail.com. Chris put together a $120, 5 hours tour for the two of us, not knowing if there were going to be 2, 4. 6 or 8 people. Two of the other three couples decided to join us so the price was reduced to $45pp and Chris provided a private van for the six of us. The only thing missing may have been refreshments and drinks. His customized tour included the west coast of Grenada displaying features that are very specific to Grenada. As we traveled Chris pointed out the vegetation, papaya trees, nutmeg trees, etc. At Concord Falls he actually opened a nutmeg seed and explained the different layers and their use. He did the same with the chocolate plant and allowed us to sample the chocolate in it's raw form. The highlight may have been the Gouyave Nutmeg Station where we all purchased fresh spices (nutmeg, saffron, etc) or maybe it was the Mona Monkies or the Grand Estang Lake. Chris planned this tour in a top notch fashion which allowed for an amazing day in Grenada and it just seemed to get better and better. At the Belevedre Banana Plantation Chris told us about the various type of bananas and the difference between them and demonstrated the banana pod and how the bananas grow from it. This island had some of the most beautiful and colorful flowers of all the islands we visited. Chris did a wonderful job of showing us his beautiful island - Grenada. There were two cruise ship docks in the town of St. George and Chris did a wonderful job monitoring and keeping us informed as to where the Caribbean Princess would dock on our arrival and where he would meet us. Chris called us at home to confirm our plans as well as to discuss his liking of the Texas Rangers and the Dallas Cowboys. He is a wonderful guy and so accommodating. Hope he liked the Cowboy T-shirt we took to him. Chris is very knowledgeable about Grenada, his explanations are done with very good English and he turned this tour into an educational experience not just a cruise ship tour. I would highly recommend christours.
Donna_In_India Posted April 25, 2012 #10 Share Posted April 25, 2012 Our excursion with Mandoo was one of the worst excursions we've ever done. Getting people in and out of the "bus" was time-consuming. We only made a few stops and wasted so much time at each stop. There were hardly any opportunities for photography as everything was a "drive-by" - so much so that it became a running joke with others trying to take photos. We ended up wasting so much time that we had no time at all to explore St. George (much more interesting than anything we saw on the excursion). But the worst were his soapbox political speeches - the last one lasting for 20 minutes from the last stop all the way to the ship. We really didn't need to hear his tirade against China, Japan, etc. or any of his political beliefs - totally inappropriate. Would not - could not - recommend him. Rare hcat Posted June 17, 2012 #11 Share Posted June 17, 2012 Can anyone comment on or compare these ship's excursions (Celebrity)? we only do ship's tours first time in any port... Grenada South Coast Tour... 2 rum distilleries and one hr at La Sagesse Beach Creole Escapade... City of St George's highlights, the forts. Clarke's Rum Distillery and then the beach stop (not named??) we would prefer just one distillery as in the second tour, but are not sure about being in the open air transport they describe and the beach is not named the beach (La Sagesse) is very pretty...but they do not mention the transport Thanks for any help
