SheilaNC Posted April 13, 2005 #2 Share Posted April 13, 2005 You can't walk from the ship to the ferry...two entirely different areas. However, it's easy to catch a taxi near the ship to the ferry. The key is to know which ferry you wish to take and the ferry schedule. The last time I was there, one left from the dock right in town (a short ride from the cruise ship dock in Havensight). Others leave from Red Hook, I believe but it's a much longer taxi ride. Check out http://www.stjohnusvi.com/ferry.html - It's an easy ferry ride (not luxurious but reasonable comfortable) and easy to do on your own. Just be sure that you keep track of the time for return trip and return taxi ride. Enjoy! St. John is a lovely island
The Islander Posted April 13, 2005 #3 Share Posted April 13, 2005 Hello, Its easy to travel to St. John. The walk from Havensight (where most ships dock) to the downtown St. John ferry is about 30 minutes walking at a normal to brisk pace. You can take a taxi for $3 each way. There is also a ferry that leaves from Red Hook on a more frequent schedule. That would be a longer taxi ride but shorter ferry ride as Red Hook is on the east end of St. Thomas and closer to St. John. Once in Cruz Bay St. John you can easily catch a taxi to a number of lovely and nearby beaches; Hawksnest, Caneel Bay, Cinnamon Bay, Trunk Bay... they are all relatively close and lovely. --Islander http://www.*****

The Islander Posted April 17, 2005 #5 Share Posted April 17, 2005 Hello Randy, Go to http://www.*****/general_usvi/cruiseship/cruiseguide_page3.php there are taxi rates to the popular St. Thomas destinations from the docks and the popular St. John destinations from the ferry/Cruz Bay. --Islander *****

richtersl Posted May 9, 2005 #8 Share Posted May 9, 2005 You won't have a problem getting a taxi from Trunk Bay back to the ferry dock. There will be plenty available. If your ship is docked at Havensight and you need to be on board by 4:30, I would suggest taking the 3:00 ferry from St. John back to Red Hook in St. Thomas. You may want to verify times pickup times with the cab driver.
