CruisinMatt Posted May 11, 2004 #1 Share Posted May 11, 2004 I'm interested in hearing reviews of that cruise to nowhere! _________________________ NCL Norway 2/00 - Eastern Carib. smeyer418 Posted May 11, 2004 #2 Share Posted May 11, 2004 It was great once we were on board. Boarding was someone delayed and chaotic. Typical day on the dawn-- great!
snorklinbarb Posted May 11, 2004 #3 Share Posted May 11, 2004 Hi Matt, One of these days you'll just have to fly east and cruise the Dawn!!! 1 nighter? Absolutely lovely! As smeyer said, typical NY looong embarkation, but once onboard, just great. The red carnation and choc. covered strawberries for Mother's Day was a nice touch. Many multi-generational families, groups, couples, really quite a mix of guests. All the restaurants were open. Lunch in the Venetian was honestly more like dinner...a wonderful seared yellowfin tuna. Only hours later, we were in Aqua having a delicious prime rib w/all the trimmings. NCL pulled out all the stops on the entertainment. Full sailaway with band, with excellent views of the Statue of Liberty and NY skyline, Jean Ann Ryan's "Bollywood", NY comedian Dave Heenan, South Beach Fiesta late night party, casinos open, singers in all the lounges. We heard lots of folks saying they'd like to come back for a longer stay, so it looks like the 1 night cruise was probably a success for NCL as well. Service was wonderful, many familiar faces from our previous 2 trips on the Dawn. It was a joy to see some of the senior staff again. Klaus Lugmaier from last year is back on as Hotel Dir. Calvin Lodge, whom we had just met on the Sky in March, is now there as Asst. HD. As an aside, both are very gracious hosts and very interested in meeting any Cruise Critic groups. Just go through the proper channels stateside in Miami, and you'll be surprised who might show up at your CC get together. Can't wait to go back on 11/28 for the 11 nighter. One night was wonderful, though, and it didn't hurt that we could just take the subway & bus to the pier!

Luna'sMom Posted May 11, 2004 #6 Share Posted May 11, 2004 I also was on the one nighter for Mother's Day. I have never seen the ship at FULL capacity and it was crowded. This was my third time on the Dawn and probably my last on NCL. They do not have a loyality program with different levels, like RCCL or Celebrity and when you cruise with them, it does not matter how many times, you do not get any perks, so from now on I will spend my money elsewhere. I do like the Dawn and it is a beautiful ship. snorklinbarb Posted May 11, 2004 #7 Share Posted May 11, 2004 Luna's Mom is right, the sailing was completely sold out within a couple of days!! We were lucky to snag an inside cabin, essentially bought a gty and ended up in 10511, very nice. In spite of full capacity, though, we were at Aqua from 7:00 pm on, and the whole time we were there, there was immediate seating. It wouldn't have been necessarily our 1st choice among all the restaurants, but we ran into Bahti(sp?), a lovely Indian waitress from last year. She served us to perfection and is an articulate, professional young lady. Some of you may have previously seen her as the female dancer of a pair during the crew talent show last year. Since many in that show have now moved on to other ships, etc., they're hoping to regroup and form a new talent show for the guests. We really enjoyed the various local dancing from Malaysia, the Phillipines, India, etc. presented so proudly by the various crew members. If they do get it going again, don't miss it! djmpj Posted May 12, 2004 #8 Share Posted May 12, 2004 How did you hear about this Mother's Day one day sailing? I would love to do something similar in the future. Where did you sail to? Did anyone use the pools? I would imagine it might have been chilly, although we actually had wonderful weather here in NJ on Sunday. DJ This is our FIRST Cruise
smeyer418 Posted May 12, 2004 #9 Share Posted May 12, 2004 On this board . We sailed out to sea and off Long Island. the pools were open and full. It was warm and sunny! The ship became available for one day as it was chartered for 6 days starting Monday. It worked out well for NCL as the ship was quite full-although those that booked early and had more than 2 in the room paid taxes for 3-4 only! what a bargain!
