bluecruise1 Posted February 1, 2012 #1 Share Posted February 1, 2012 Has it been rocky or calm leaving from NJ this month? We are leaving in 2 weeks and I'm getting worried that the winter water will be rocky until we get farther south.
Chardo Posted February 1, 2012 #2 Share Posted February 1, 2012 Good question. I think it largely depends on the regional weather that day. I'll be on your ship, btw. Just booked today.
kruzerci Posted February 1, 2012 #3 Share Posted February 1, 2012 I would think it would be rough in the Atlantic this time of year, but it always varies from week to week. Hope for the best!
Rare orville99 Posted February 1, 2012 #4 Share Posted February 1, 2012 I've never seen it NOT rocky coming out of NY/NJ. Usually don't encounter calm seas until well into the second day.
Puffinater Posted February 1, 2012 #5 Share Posted February 1, 2012 Have sailed out of NJ three times in the past, all during this time of year, and have had rough seas each time.
windjamming Posted February 1, 2012 #6 Share Posted February 1, 2012 As others have said, it is almost always rocky until the second day. If you are concerned about seasickness I would suggest assuming that the waters will be rough and taking precautions ahead of time.
rjrpar Posted February 1, 2012 #7 Share Posted February 1, 2012 Been on 2 Explorer cruises out of NJ in Feb and never had rough seas. We have probably been lucky but don't worry. We will be on the 2/27 cruise later this month.
SKYBAR STIRRER Posted February 1, 2012 #8 Share Posted February 1, 2012 I have sailed on the Explorer several times from New Jersey. We have hit some rough weather but nothing very bad. I go as part of a package that we bring our motorcycles on board. Have never had even the slightest movement on the bikes. I will also be on the 2/27 cruise and once again we will have the bikes with us. I think there is about 20 motorcycles on that sailing.
cb at sea Posted February 2, 2012 #9 Share Posted February 2, 2012 Mother Nature determines how the seas will be....no way to predict in advance!
rwdnj Posted February 2, 2012 #10 Share Posted February 2, 2012 It's a crap shoot. Like others have said, could go either way. We had smooth sailing last feb on the EOS but that doesn't mean you will too. Remember, nature's a mother. :D
Gilgo Surfer Posted February 2, 2012 #11 Share Posted February 2, 2012 I'm 2 for 2 with rough seas sailing out of NJ (April and January).
