sayvan Posted February 9, 2012 #1 Share Posted February 9, 2012 Does anyone know which car rental companies have a drop off location at the Port of Miami?
rjschaack16 Posted February 9, 2012 #2 Share Posted February 9, 2012 Rental cars can no longer be dropped of at POM. You have take the car to a rental location that offers a shuttle to the POM. We used enterprise and they have a free shuttle from the rental car center to POM on our last cruise out of miami.
JohninDC Posted February 9, 2012 #3 Share Posted February 9, 2012 Thrifty, National and Alamo are reported to have free shuttles to POM from the MIA aiport car rental center. Both Avis and Hertz have downtown Miami locations close to POM and some have reported that the Hertz office will shuttle to POM - not sure about picking you up at POM. Good luck! :)
sayvan Posted February 9, 2012 Author #4 Share Posted February 9, 2012 Thanks for the information. I will look into those suggested. As we fly into FFL and are staying in Miami it just makes more sense to rent a car and then take the rental sguttle rather then paying 80 bucks to hotel and probably another 60 or so for 5 people to get to the port. Unless you rent a van (and those are expensive ) you are looking at $75-80+ from FLL to downtown Miami hotels, and two cabs (about $10-12 each) the next day to squeeze in 5 plus luggage to POM. If you rent a van (or two cars :() you will avoid the FLL to Miami shuttle fee, but parking the van/cars at any downtown or Miami Beach hotel will rack up a $25-30+/day parking fee per vehicle. If you return the cars early, you can avoid the parking fees, but will be stuck with the cab fares -- you can't win. Have you looked at just staying near the FLL airport (someplace with free airport shuttles)? Good luck! :)
