Enchantment of the Seas Delayed at Cruise Maryland

An engine problem can be as little as a plugged fuel filter or an oil leak. It doesn't necessarily mean it's shot.

Maybe I am just thinking 'worse case scenario' because I, along with about 2000+ other people, are sailing on her in 9 days and don't want to miss OUR trip... selfish, maybe... concerned that I am not going to be able to get out of the NewYork winter weather, yeah.

You are right: It literally does stink on this ship. I will never cruise again.

And if you were on a flight and some thing happens to the plane and you sit on the Tarmac for a while would you never fly again?? I highly doubt it.. Give it a rest and chill out.. Life is too short.. To be pissed off about something out of everyone's contol ...

I was wondering the same thing. If you know you are going to be in port for most of the night, why not let them off, but then again you have all the bars you need on the ship and even some free entertainment. But at least give them the option if they want to hit some of Baltimore's hot spots.

Unless they lined up a fleet of taxi cabs to take people back towards the inner harbor, there is nothing to do close to the ship in port. I expect they wouldn't want to have people roaming all over when they have no idea of when they might leave.

I know this has to be disappointing and stressful for those on board, but they should at least feel relieved that they are being kept safe. I have sailed on the Enchantment and never smelled anything bad, so maybe they are also having a problem with the sewage. Poor Peggy924 sounds so distraught and unhappy, that I hope all the other services are going on and that this hasn't brought everything on the ship to a stop.

I guess you just can't please some people. If they would have taken off on time, knowing that there was an issue and hen you found out, then you would be wanting to sue. Some people just like to complain. It is doubtful there could be a smell this soon after the problem started. Are you sure that you are actually on the ship?

It must be really disappointing to be a guest on the ship right now, I totally get that. I'm sure all of us have experienced vacation let-downs to some degree. From the posts I've read most people sympathize with the passengers on EN today.

I don't have a problem addressing concerns head-on, I think a lot of people are much to submissive and accept things without trying to obtain a fair and equitable solution.

Having said that, I just don't see how this is different than a plane, train or automobile breaking down. No one ever wants to break down and I'm sure a cruise ship in a billion dollar industry has much more incentive to get things in working order and are doing everything possible to get it fixed.

I would at least give them a chance to make it right, if they can. Clearly RCI did not set out today with the intent to cause the problem. Don't you think that RCI wants to fix the problem just as much as you want it fixed?

And I would say the reason that they are not allowing passengers off the ship (if that is the case) is because the don't want to be waiting for Pax if/when the problem is fixed since that would just delay things even more.

Best,

Sunny

I am on this ship; my 1st cruise with my husband and 2 kids. Needless to say, I will NEVER cruise again, especially on RCI.

I spoke with members of management who said techs were flying up from Miami. They said this is not all that uncommon and that we likely won't miss any ports. LIARS! They were rude, dismissive and arrogant! The ship smells like sewage and they are not offering drink deals.

I want to get off. I want my money back. Anyone know what my recourse is? I don't want to spend precious family vacation time on a smelly boat in Baltimore!

Try to take it easy. You have had a bump in the road. You might be delayed to your first port, but don't let it spoil your whole cruise.

You are also just sitting at the pier so the smell will disapate when the ship sails.

As for being rude, dismissiive ,etc , they have probably answered the same questions 2000 times already. No excuse but there it is.

Except for the Casino and Shops that are closed what is all the fuss. if the ship did leave on time, you could not get off the ship tonight anyway. So what's the difference.

I guess everyone is different on their expectations. I could care less if the ship stood still or just went around in a circle for 9-nights. I cruise to be on the ship. Don't really care if I ever get off. Now, if everything got shut down on the ship, dining room, shows, activities, etc., where you were trapped on board, or, in your room with nothing to do, then I might be upset. But if the only thing that is wrong is that the ship is not moving, then I am fine.

There are those who get out of bed looking for a reason to be offended.

i know this is a tough pill to swallow on your first cruise not to mention all this time and money you have invested in it, but dont give up just yet. give them some time and hopefully it will work out and you will wake up at sea. Enjoy what you can for tonight and get in the hot tub or go dancing or just go get in those comfortable beds.

Is it certain floors that smell like sewage? I wonder if that is part of whatever is wrong?

they should be giving out drink deals but maybe you will get some sort of OBC...

Hang in there!

Thank you for your understanding/ kind words! I am obviously frustrated and my kids are disappointed. I chose this cruise b/c of the stops and I am annoyed that we will likely have to miss one. Hopefully we will be underway soon.

I don't know what the sewage smell is all about. I noticed it when we boarded and is present in many common areas. Yuck!

I am mostly annoyed by managements response. I I am also pretty taken aback by all the mean comments directed at me for stating my honest opinion. Obviously posts that are critical are not welcome here so I will keep them to myself.

I hope by now everyone has had a few drinks, some good food, and ready to either party or go to bed...

Kudos to RCCL for not taking passengers out to sea under what might be unsafe conditions...

Peggy924 I hope tomorrow brings a brighter day to you...

btw, my guess is if they have to cut a port it would be CoCo Cay...no port charges to return to passengers...

Does anyone know if they had their Muster Drill?

The Enchantment of the Seas is equipped with 4 diesel engines, each one is tied a generator producing 12 megawatts each. There are two 17 megawatt electric motors, each attached to a fixed propeller.

For those on board; are there any power outages?

Hopefully they will be able to mitigate the problem and you will be on your way!

Aloha,

John

I was on Oasis in Sept and we had engine trouble between Nassau and St. Thomas. We traveled much more slowly and arrived in St. Thomas about three hours late. I could not believe the immediate complaining about possibly missing dinner because excursions would be starting late, etc. I thought vacations were a time to chill. We stayed in St Thomas three hours longer so excursions were not cut short and people got dinner. They could not fix the problem until we arrived in St. Martin where the repair boats were visible all day.

My point being ship happens. Oasis is a two year old ship and there was a problem.

Honestly, glad I am not sailing with Peggy because she sounds totally unhinged before even knowing what the repercussions will be and whether or not RCI will do anything to accomodate people if need be. They don;t even know yet when and if the ship will be sailing. If she is approaching staff with the attitude she displays here, no wonder they are less than accomodating!

Peggy, I truly sympathize with your plight, but travel-train, boat, car, bus, etc-is subject to mechanical breakdowns, weather delays, etc etc.

In other words, Ship Happens.

The staff and crew are doing everything they can to correct the problem, and are likely having to deal with hundreds of angry passengers.

Nothing is gained by making yourself and the people around you miserable.

This is a great opportunity to teach your kids how to have a postive outlook and to make the most of the situation when things don't go as planned.

Happy Sails to You

peggy part of the smell can come from bunkering (the process by which the ship takes on fuel...)

it smells bad....however by this time that should be long over..

could be that you're still in port and probably hooked up to ground power/water etc though not sure....

once you get going it should stop....that said, i've smelled this a little bit on almost every cruise on every line.....while it can be a plumbing issue, often it is caused by people flushing things other than #1, #2 and toilet paper....:p

try to go with the flow..yes it isn't fun...but you'd really only be missing open water so at this point, not SO horrible...but yes, sitting in baltimore instead of cruising isn't exactly exciting (no offense to b-more..LOVE it!)

Royal doesn't set out to tick people off...and they'd be much happier under way, with the stores and casino open (better to separate you from your money!:D) Know that they will do whatever they can to make it better.....

try and have fun.....and think, when you get back, you'll have lots of great stories.....

watching the weather right now and you may be missing a storm that is to our south by the delay...

Hmmm... Sitting in port waiting for a repair crew or trying to sail through a storm down one engine... My choice is easy... Another round while looking out over the Inner Harbor...

I'd rather be on a non moving cruise ship than stuck on a non moving airplane...make it into an adventure....enjoy the moment, explore the ship..order room service, have a nice conversation with other cruisers, play a card game ....just dont moan and groan Life happens ...suck it up and have fun!:D

We're sitting in the centrum listening to music. Had a really nice dinner. Not engine trouble - one of the propulsion motors is out. No power issues. We smelled a little sewage as we boarded but nothing onboard. Most people are handling this well. The crew has been great and we are all waiting to see where we wake up tomorrow. Even if our cruise ship is now a hotel - still beats cooking dinner at home.

good point..and at least you can MOVE around a ship...and have food and beverage, which is more than you'd get on a plane!

See peggy, there IS a 'bright side" (trying to cheer you up..);)

Love your attitude! I hope you're on your way soon. I miss the Enchantment and would be happy just to be sitting in the Schooner Bar docked in Baltimore right now!
