Very Confused About San Juan Hotels

Recommended Posts

I have heard such great things from everyone. Thank you.

Since we are spending a wad on this cruise, we don't want to spend a wad on a hotel room. We don't want a casino and we want a beach that's walking distance away, 1-3 blocks or so.

That said, I think we have narrowed it down to either the Hampton Inn or the Comfort Inn.

Can anyone tell me anything about either of those? Oh, I heard they both have free continental breakfast.

Thanks again,

ak

We were in San Juan in April, we stayed at the El Convento, it's in Old San Juan. It was a great Historical hotel and it's right in the heart of all the history.

I believe it was a $12 cab fare to the ship.

I believe the sheraton is right by the Pan Am pier. I don't know much about the hotel there though.

I'd definitely recommend the El Convento to everyone.

That would be great! I would also love to hear everything about the ship, from your perspective.

Have a blast and think of us New Englanders shivering in the below-normal May temperatures.

  • 3 weeks later...

We stayed at the Hampton Inn May 14th before our cruise. The hotel is close to the airport although this wasn't a problem. The hotel was nice, it had a small pool and an outdoor bar and grill. It was raining when we were there so we didn't use any of the above. The location is great, you can walk to the beach, and there is a drug store just across the street. There are restaurants, casinos, and fast food restaurants all within walking distance.

There is a free buffet breakfast in the morning and taxis are waiting to take you to the Pan American pier.

We would stay again in this hotel if we were in Puerto Rico again, any questions? I will try to answer them

Thanks, Donna.

Sorry to hear that it rained.

Was the room clean? How was the breakfast? (We have to feed two teenage boys, so anything free is a bonus. :D )

Do you remember what it cost to get from the airport to the hotel and from the hotel to the port?

Thanks

I second that recommendation - we stayed there when it was the Wyndham. Nice pool on the roof. Reasonable price. About $18.50 from the airport and maybe $11 to the pier. We ate across the plaza in a small boutique hotel restaurant called I think Mufungo for Breakfast - half of the price of the Sheraton. LOADS of restaurants within

2-3 blocks of the hotel including Senor Frogs. We ate in a Latin Indian place called Tantra - second time we have eaten there

I have the Intercontinental booked for January/06. Looks like a great hotel with excellent amenities and it is right on the beach. I don't like the price :( $269 per night! Has anyone stayed at this hotel, and if you did.....is it worth the money?

My standards are pretty high for hotels, but I'm happy as long as the room is spotless :)

I have stayed at the I-C you speak about. It is a nice very hotel with a wonderful pool area. Expensive food though. There is a Denny's just a few blocks away and a Burger King across the street. Depending on the day of the week, there is a cock fighting ring a couple of blocks away also. I've never been, but might some day. Your price seems high, but it has been a year since I stayed there. I think I paid like $199. plus tax. For a fun and experience ride, catch the city bus outside the hotel and take it to the end of the line in Old San Juan. You can walk the streets there and ride back to the hotel. (just get on the right bus and watch for your location) The bus ride is 50 cents..cash...no change by the driver so make sure you have the two quarters. It really gives you an idea what the locals do to get around..and the ride matches a 6 flags ride..ha ha . Airport is only a few minute ride..I think we paid $8 + bags.

Have a great time!!!

We had a suite since we had our adult son and girlfriend with us, the room for 4 was about $185.00. The hotel is near the airport, I can't remember how much the taxi was but I think about $20.00, it was more expensive to get to the pier I think around $30.00. Don't forget there was 4 of us and they charge $1.00 per bag. I do remember how much it was from the pier to the airport,$ 23.50.

The room was clean and it was a good location, we did walk to the beach even though it was raining out. The breakfast buffet had sausage patties, scrambled eggs, bagels, toast, juice, cereals, yogurt, fruit and coffee. There might be some more things I forgot.

I loved the ship, but I love voyager class ships. We had taken this cruise over 2 years ago, so I knew what to expect. If you have any questions, I will try to answer them or I will ask one of my family if they know the answer.

I'm a big priceline believer. I would submit bids for the 4* and 3* hotels. If you get turned down just go back and resubmit your bid a few days later and keep trying eventually you should get a good deal. Last oct I got Radison ambassador for 75$ a night (slow season I know) but this was far less than I could find anywhere else. And, as others have said have fun AOS is wonderful.

You can book the OSJ Sheraton online for $185. Although, you may want to save some more money, but it might take a lot of your time at the computer over the next few months. Time is money:D
